Summer 2021 is closing in on its climactic end and is leaving so many awesome anime behind in its wake. While most of the iconic anime of this season are still ongoing, stretching into Fall 2021 as well, we all need to stop and ask ourselves, “What are the titles that I must finish watching before the summer ends?” This can’t be done for ongoing titles, but there are plenty of great titles that have concluded by now, which ought to be binged right about now if you haven’t gotten to them yet. Here are our top ten picks for the Top ten anime that must be binged before Summer 2021 ends! Most of these titles hail from Spring 2021 and have concluded neatly by now, so bear with us.
Don't Toy with Me, Miss Nagatoro
Many fans were hyped for the “Don't Toy with Me, Miss Nagatoro” series, and it certainly wasn’t a letdown. This Slice of Life rom-com revolves around the awkward Naoto Hachiouji, who is constantly teased by first-year Hayase Nagatoro, who keeps calling him “senpai.” Though he is beyond embarrassed by her antics and is forced to cater to her whims, they eventually develop a weird friendship. Naoto soon finds life with Nagatoro to be quite fun and of course, his days were never again dull after their fateful encounter. This is a lighthearted and fun anime most viewers can enjoy!
Higehiro: After Being Rejected, I Shaved and Took in a High School Runaway
Higehiro was quite the meme material anime during its run, and there were plenty of reasons for that. The drama and romance featured reached unique heights, to say the least. Salaryman Yoshida wakes up one morning after a night of drinking to find a high school girl in his apartment. He was reeling from being rejected by his crush when he had met this high school runaway in his drunken stupor. Soon Yoshida finds himself unable to kick her out, and despite his hesitations, he ultimately allows her to stay. Thus begins their peculiar life together…… Higehiro is not an anime everyone can stomach, with drama that goes ham and appears superficial at times, but overall it is one hell of an experience that should not be missed.
86-Eighty Six
86 is a Mecha Science-fiction anime unlike any other. It does a fantastic job of handling real-life themes. This story touches on the dangers of racism and hate in an iconic way; it is not to be missed. As per the Republic of San Magnolia, the war against the Giadian Empire has no casualties, thus is their propaganda. The silver-haired Alba of the Republic's eighty-five sectors lives safely while those of different appearances are interned in a secret eighty-sixth faction. The military of Eighty-Six is forced to fight against the Empire's autonomous Legion. Regardless, MC Vladilena Milizé continues to fight against this inhumane discrimination. When the fates of souls from two different worlds collide, will they find the path to salvation, or will they fall into despair in the process?
Vivy -Fluorite Eye's Song
This anime seemingly came out of nowhere and took the Anime community by storm. Vivy is an action-packed thriller that most viewers can definitely enjoy. When an advanced AI from the future appears before her and asks her help to stop a devastating war a hundred years in the making, she is thrown into a century-long journey to avert the calamity yet to come. Highly evolved AIs are out to eradicate humanity, and in a desperate bid to stop the catastrophe, a scientist bets everything on a past remnant. Vivy was the first-ever autonomous AI, a songstress tasked with spreading happiness through her voice. Despite never getting a proper audience, she pours her heart into her performances every day.
How Not to Summon a Demon Lord Ω
The hilarious “How Not to Summon a Demon Lord” is back with Season 2. Diablo is back and continues his journey with Rem and Shera as they encounter a lone girl in tatters, pursued by a mighty Paladin. Once again, Diablo must do his best to hide his social awkwardness and save yet another damsel in distress. Their magical and slightly ecchi adventures continue in this comedic sequel! Anyone who watched the sequel knows precisely what to expect from this, and if they enjoyed it, they are guaranteed to enjoy this sequel too.
Fruits Basket: The Final
The remake of one of the best Shoujo series ever spawned concluded majestically last spring. Fans were eager for the whole story from the manga to be animated, and they were not disappointed in the least. Centuries ago, the curse of the Chinese Zodiac spirits and their god began. The possessed Souma family members shall always return to each other while depriving them of their freedom. Akito fantasizes about having a special connection with the other Soumas when the fear of punishment merely suppresses them. Tooru Honda is more determined than ever to break the curse but confounding revelations cause her to struggle. An uncertain future lies before her as she continues to hope for the freedom and peace of all her beloved.
Combatants Will Be Dispatched!
“Sentouin, Hakenshimasu!” is a comedy, fantasy, and action anime that caught the community by their sense of humor. MC Sentouin Roku-gou is tasked with helping an organization conquer the universe. He must now infiltrate the kingdom of Grace and is delusional that his skills as a combatant are superb. Alice Kisaragi, an exceptional android, accompanies this arrogant MC. The duo encounter Snow, who forces Roku-gou to become an honorary knight as a punishment. Having thus infiltrated the kingdom's inner circle, Roku-gou must now fight against the Demon Lord's Army while perpetuating evil deeds as a combatant as well.
Zombie Land Saga Revenge
Revenge takes everything that made the prequel so fun and unique and improves it further by adding a more mature storyline, improved character dynamics, and development, all the while providing a satisfactory conclusion to the cast’s story arc. A group of legendary girls from different eras have banded together as zombie idols to save Saga Prefecture. MC Sakura Minamoto dies in an accident only to be reborn as a Zombie ten years later. Producer Kotaro Tatsumi spearheads this Zombie Idol project, Sakura included. Now the Idol group Franchouchou, after overcoming the many difficulties of age and hailing from different eras in history, must challenge all their limits. Set in the modern Reiwa era, the curtain rises on Franchouchou's history once again as they move forward as one, towards a hectic and hopeful future.
Shaman King (2021)
Many fans anticipated the return of Shaman King this year. While it was as groundbreaking as most had hoped for, it was still a decent remake. Shamans are extraordinary individuals; they possess the ability to communicate with ghosts, spirits, and gods. The Shaman Fight is a prestigious tournament pitting shamans against each other and is only held every five hundred years; the winner is ultimately crowned the Shaman King. The Shaman King can call upon the Great Spirit and shape the world as they wish. You Asakura is a Shaman-in-training, accompanied by the ghost of six-hundred-year-old samurai Amidamaru. He is determined to become the next Shaman King!
Yuukoku no Moriarty 2nd Season
“Moriarty the Patriot” returned last spring with Season 02. This is a must-watch for fans of the prequel. It is less Moriarty focused and looks at more aspects of political inequality instead. It is more emotional, character-driven, and complex, portraying the events and motivations of the characters in a realistically dark but hopeful manner. Great Britain is ablaze thanks to the "Lord of Crime," a group consisting of William James Moriarty and his two brothers, Louis and Albert. To create a new, fair society for all, they must commit criminal acts. This brings forth a dangerous game between Moriarty and Sherlock, each trying to outwit the other. Now, Irene Adler is caught up with both parties. She is beautiful, cunning, and a pro at scandals, but the classified documents she stole could shake the very foundations of the British Empire. Can she be saved, or must she steel herself to a deadly future?
