Demon Lord, Retry!
What would happen if the imaginary worlds you construct came true? Something much more embarrassing or unreasonably ridiculous? Or a place you'd like to escape to? What else is there to do than strive to live your best life possible?
Hiroshi Kimura is the creator of the continuing anime series Demon Lord, Retry! (Ma-sama, Ritorai!). Written by Ka Tanisaki, Satoshi Hno provided the music. Studio Ekachi Epilka gave rise to the series. The television show is authorized by AUS, Madman Entertainment, and Crunchyroll. Tokyo MX and BS Fuji were the first networks to air the program. It broadcasted from July 4th until September 19th, 2019.
Twelve episodes of 23 minutes each made up the series. It belongs to the action, adventure, and fantasy genres, with Isekai as its primary theme. It was classified as PG-13 for older teens. Maou-sama, Retry!, a collection of light novels by Kurone Kanzaki and Kouji Ogata, served as the inspiration for the anime. Shousetsuka ni Narou released the series in 2016.
Akira Oono, the manager of the MMORPG Infinity Game, is a regular working adult. However, because he is a strong "Dark Lord," many kingdoms and holy maidens set out to overthrow him, and he, too, causes problems wherever he goes. After fifteen years of development, Oono permanently shut down the servers. He unexpectedly awakens at the stroke of twelve in the body of the middle-aged Demon Lord from Infinity Game, Hakuto Kunai, and thus begins his journey with a little girl named Aku.
The infinity Game was developed by Akira Ono, who has also been its administrator for fifteen years. Outside of his fervent belief that God does not exist, he has an ordinary appearance and is humble; otherwise, he appears to be entirely normal. He has played video games for countless hours, developing a wealth of experience in his field. He also possesses exceptional acting talent as a working adult, which he utilizes to retain the appearance of his character, Hakuto Kunai, the self-declared Demon Lord of the Great Empire.
Hakuto makes a respectable hero. He is not presented as a whining or immature high schooler. He exudes such charisma, in fact, that I occasionally find it alluring. What isekai features a 40-year-old as the lead character other than this one? It is more enticing and energizing solely because of that.
Aku is a 13-year-old female with red and green heterochromia eyes, short blonde hair, and an androgynous appearance. She has a green eye, and her long fringe covers the left half of her face. She is Kunai's first companion after entering the game, and she has a right leg infection that makes walking ordinarily tricky. Aku was made an orphan by disease at a young age, and because of this circumstance and her peculiar eyes, the other hamlet residents bullied and mistreated her. She depends on Hakuto like a father.
One of the main plot points that demonstrates Hakuto's human side is their relationship. Their daughter/parent-like bond allows them to explore each other's characteristics fully. Aku also acts just like a young woman her age.
In contrast to some of the people he meets, like Aku, the isekai series tends to introduce a wide range of personalities. The majority of the characters in the show are archetypal characters without any new elements or story points added to them. So far, we've seen the spoiled brat, the formidable and fit woman who just wants to fall in love, and an overconfident big-breasted wizard. We can, however, claim that the characters are visually appealing despite being generic. They have been created more as vehicles for jokes and laughter than as means of character development.
Unexpectedly, the narrative is serious. While ‘Demon Lord, Retry!’ initially seems like a simple self-service anime aiming to capitalize on the Isekai boom, many underlying plots are just waiting to emerge. As the series progresses, it gets rather deep.
The animation appears to have been created using Microsoft Paint. So you might not be impressed when you see some of the backgrounds. Mainly because you'll be laughing so hard, you'll pass out. The action scenes, however, are very pitiful. There needs to be more visible movement, resulting in the impression the difficult task of creating an effective fight scene should have been addressed. The animation may pass on a decent piece of work. However, the program does not appear to bother making the extra effort to appease the audience. It seems that Maou-sama simply doesn't care.
This anime's soundtracks were shockingly terrible. Sometimes it's too distracting, and other times it's illogical. But it starts with a fantastic metal song. The series' opening theme song, "Tempest," was sung by Kaori Ishihara, and the series' closing theme, "New," was sung by Haruka Tj. However, considering how many other components of the series are lacking, the voice acting is surprisingly strong. Casting with accuracy gives this series many more plus points.
Yes, this anime does feel like a horrible parody of previous Isekai, such as Overlord and Konosuba, and it does feel like it has borrowed a lot of their substance. However, this is an excellent anime that viewers can enjoy spending their time with. But it's definitely something other than what I'd happily recommend to others. But it is a naughty show which people can manage to keep watching. It could be a positive encounter. That sounds confusing, right? This may not be everyone's cup of tea, but it is what it is.
