There are the usual hyped titles, the ones fans are skeptical about, and the ones that aren’t really the greatest now. Here are our picks for the five anime we are most excited about and the ones we could do without! With so many choices to choose from, what should we go for and what ought to be avoided?
So what are the best titles we are all hyped about for this eventful Summer and Fall? There are so many titles fans are excited for, either yet to release, already airing, or concluded for the season. For this shortlist, we will be looking at fairly new titles. We will not be discussing the long-running fan favorites that continue their legacy this season, like One Piece, Boku no Hero Academia, and Boruto. As such, below are our top five picks for the most noteworthy titles;
Tensei shitara Slime Datta Ken 2nd Season Part 2
“That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 2 Part 2”, if you don’t know this anime yet, you need to expose yourself to more anime-bound environments. Fans highly anticipated this sequel series, being the Best Selling Light Novel in Japan, and it did not disappoint the majority.
Tensura 2 turns to the eventful nation of Tempest once again, in the aftermath of the Blumund invasion, where they face more problems that require resolution, such as Milim Nava's suspicious behavior and the disappearance of the Demon Lord Carrion. Rimuru Tempest is now awakened as the "True Demon Lord.” One of the most OP characters in anime history, if not the most OP, this adorable slime is done playing the nice guy and decides to go on the total offensive against Clayman. With the fully revived Storm Dragon Veldora, the Ultimate Skill Raphael, and many other powerful allies, he is ready to take down his enemies one by one. All of this is in preparation for ultimately facing the mastermind behind it all, the man pulling strings from the shadows.
Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon S
Everyone’s favorite Dragon Maid is back in Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid Season 2! Fans loved the spontaneous and hilarious season 1, so now Tooru is back to become the greatest Maid once again. Not one dull day passes by in the Kobayashi household now. Following a massive landslide, the perpetrator dragon Ilulu enters the fray. Despite her hostility, she is soon intrigued by Kobayashi's skill with dragons and decides to observe her. This season is packed full with more laughs, mischief, madness, heartwarming moments, and tense situations as Kobayashi frantically tries to keep it all under control!
Komi-san wa, Comyushou desu.
The highly anticipated Komi Can't Communicate is finally out! Fans were craving this anime adaptation for years, and now we stand mostly satisfied. On Shouko Komi's first day at Itan Private High School, she is already considered the school's Madonna. Her long black hair, tall and graceful appearance enchants all, but she is terrible at communicating. Hitohito Tadano is an average high school boy who avoids trouble at all costs but sitting next to Shouko has made him an enemy of his classmates. One day, by chance, he realizes Shouko’s situation and the fact that she likely never had a single friend. He resolves to help her, to make one hundred friends so that she may finally overcome her communication disorder. This heart-touching story will not disappoint!
Mushoku Tensei: Isekai Ittara Honki Dasu 2nd Season
Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Season 1 was a huge hit, especially among Isekai fans, as a genuinely unique and comedic take on the genre. Now Season 2 will soon be upon us, and fans can only predict that it will be better than the first. Isekaied in a world full of magic, sorcery, and swords, Rudeus retains the full memory of his previous life and is determined to live it to the fullest. The anime has not failed to entertain its fans with its witty and funny quirks yet, and we can only hope for the best.
Date A Live IV
Good old Date A Live is finally back for a fourth season after many years. Fans speculate that the season will adapt the event from the Light Novel Volume 14 onwards. We are expected to meet new characters Nia Honjou and Mukuro Hoshimiya, the ninth and tenth Spirits. It will also feature a struggle between Shido and Mukuro, the return of fan-favorite Kurumi Tokisaki, and a big confession by Shido. We are all hyped for this sequel!
Five Anime We Could Do Without This Summer and Fall!
Now for some Anime that were released or are due for release this Summer and Fall of 2021, which the anime community could have done without. We are not saying these titles are bad; in fact, some are decent or even good. Even so, they could have done better, or a much better series could have been animated in their place. Below are our top five picks!
“Girlfriend, Girlfriend” was released this summer, and while it has its good sides, most of the community could have done without it. It could have worked better as a hentai plot and does not work well as a rom-com series. The Opening is pretty good, but aside from that, everything else depends on the beholder. This harem is not to be taken seriously in any way, and as long as you’re a fan of the genres, it might be a decent watch for you.
Peach Boy Riverside
This summer, fans got a taste of a magical world where humans, demihumans, and oni are at heavy odds with each other. The problems with this series are that the moods change very quickly, the fight scenes lack action, and the story has no proper direction. On the plus side, the scenes where the characters communicate with fan service and madness are pretty entertaining to watch. Other than that, nothing much.
Isekai Shokudou 2
Restaurant to Another World is getting its Season 2 this Fall. While Season 1 was decent, is this sequel really necessary? Isekai Shokudou really lacks when it comes to storytelling and a colorful plot. Every episode so far felt the same and is lackluster. Whether Season 2 will improve in these regards or not is still an unanswered question, but is it really needed?
Mahouka Koukou no Yuutousei
“The Honor at Magic High School” will retell the story of “Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei” from the point of view of Miyuki and the other female characters. Is this spin-off as good as the main series? Well, no, it isn’t. It won’t contribute much to the series, and thus fans question its existence. From the perspectives of the ‘ honored,’ this retelling of the first half of the series offers nothing besides eye-catching characters and appealing voice actors. This spin-off only serves to question the direction and purpose of the franchise while providing ample fanservice….
D_Cide Traumerei the Animation
Another Anime based on a Mobile game, and like many others, it is poorly executed. While the premise is interesting, they attempt to cover many sensitive topics like abuse, homicide, suicide, and the like, which are poorly executed. The 3D animation is decent at best, and the OSTs are lackluster. It may be an excellent watch to fans of the genre and the mobile game, but it does not bode well overall.
This concludes our list for this Summer and Fall anime which we could have done without! They may have their charms, but so many other series have fans eagerly waiting to be animated. We can only hope the Anime Gods listen and our prayers are answered soon in upcoming seasons!
