Earl Ciel Phantomhive is the current head of the Phantomhive family, the mind behind Funtom Corporation, and an Aristocrat of Evil. He is one of the most popular characters from the cult classic Black Butler (Kuroshitsuji) and is widely known for his iconic eyepatch and Faustian Contract enigma on his right eye. He is often described as a shrewd boy, who despite being incredibly young, took on the responsibility of the Phantomhive family and served as the "Queens Watchdog" after the tragic massacre of his family. But, even if Ciel is extremely young, he is by no means taken lightly by his peers. The Scotland Yard Commissioner, Lord Arthur Randall, when describing Ciel to another Officer Fred Abberline, even went as far as to say; "That is no Kid; that is a Demon." ~Scotland Commissioner, Lord Arthur Randall, Black Butler Chapter 15 When the officer alluded to the fact that Ciel is just a kid. But, Ciel was never this strong. He was an extremely shy yet timid kid who was forced to take on the responsibility of an adult early on. So, let's take a look at Ciel Phantomhive and see what makes this the little head of the Phantomhive family so charming. Early Life: Ciel Phantomhive, or rather, the younger brother of "Ciel Phantomhive," was born to Count Vincent Phantomhive and Countess Rachel Phantomhive on December 14, 1875, just a few minutes after his big twin big brother "Ciel Phantomhive." They were both identical twins and looked soo similar that they could easily mirror the image of one another. But at the age of five, the younger Ciel developed asthma and, because of his poor health, was unable to accompany his parents or brother on trips or even go to play outside with other kids. Because of this, Ciel never interacted with many people early on and became extremely timid and shy in front of a stranger. And would hide behind his father whenever he met someone for the first time. And since they were identical twins nobody could tell them apart. But the young Ciel never felt alone because his big brother "Ciel" always was by his side and would always play with him. This led to a moment where "Ciel" when finding out that his younger brother Ciel, wanted to open a toy shop in London; the older brother threw a huge tantrum to his parents where he refused to take on the responsibility of the Phantomhive household as its head because he did not want to leave younger brother. Only to calm down after their mother, Rachel explained that he could help his little brother as the head of the Phantomhive household, and he did not have to separate from his little brother. The Tragedy: Black Butler Fanart But, Ciel's health slowly improved over the years, and he started to go outside more with his parents. But, on their 10th birthday, something tragic happened. Ciel and "Ciel" were exhilarated that on their 10th birthday, they did not have to take any lessons and could take the day off. Both twins were to wait in their room till 6'o clock until the preparations are complete. But, 6’o clock came and went by, and nobody came so, both Twins ventured out to look for their parents when, Ciel discovered the dead body of their mother and just when Tanaka, their Butler screamed at Ciel to run away, they were attacked, and a shadowy figure caught Ciel. The Demon Ritual: At the age of 10, Ciel and his big brother "Ciel" were both sold off to Kelvin, an influential Baron who was taken aback by the Ciel when he met the twins during a party years ago. He bought the twins and treated them kindly. He bathed then, fed them, and got them ready for a party. The Baron took them to a cathedral when they were branded with the mark of the beast and abused. Later on, a day before Christmas, the cultist held a ritual to summon a demon, where "Ciel," the older brother, was put on a stage and sacrificed to summon a demon. The Arrival of Sebastian Michaelis: Out of the blood of a now-dead "Ciel Phantomhive," a demon rose, and instead of making a contract with the cultist, he chose the little boy Ciel, trapped in the cage, and made a contract with him in exchange for his soul. Ciel named the demon Sebastian after their family dog Sebastian who also died during the massacre at the Phantomhive Manor. The younger Ciel then took on the identity of his older brother and became The Ciel Phantomhive. Ciel Phantomhive Reborn: After the events with the cult, Ciel headed over to his aunt, Angelina Dalles, at Royal London Hospital with the Demon Sebastian Michaelis, where he also met up with the old Tanaka. The aunt was surprised and beyond happy to see Ciel alive. And did even chose not to question the little boy, if he chose to not reveal what actually happened to him and his brother. Ciel, after recovering somewhat, headed over to the Phantomhive Manor and found out that the assailants had burnt down the Manor after massacring his family, and all the servants in the Phantomhive Manor have also died except for Tanaka. While Ciel was grieving over at his parent's grave, Sebastian left him alone there for a moment and created an exact replica of the Phantomhive Manor using his demon powers. Later on, Ciel took on his duties as the Earl Ciel Phantomhive, fulfilling the family duties as the "Queens watchdog" and a year later founded the Funtom Corporation, fulfilling his childhood dream of opening a toy shop in London. But, Ciel Phantomhive is not actually the real name of the current Ciel. His real name is not known. Since he took on the identity of his older brother and continued to live as Ciel Phantomhive. Till now, nobody could figure out his real identity until the real "Ciel Phantomhive" came back alive as a Bizarre Doll, backed by the infamous Grim Reaper Undertaker. It is to be seen how Ciel develops from here, but one thing is for sure, it will be more than just interesting, to say the least.
