The story introduces us to a quiet and desolate city that was once bustling with people. The war has destroyed everything, and there are only a few survivors left. Chito and Yuuri are the two survivors that are shown riding a motorbike. The two girls are trying to survive by finding food and shelter at random places.

The only thing that keeps them going is the company of each other. They get through everything by depending on and trusting each other. Both Chito and Yuuri have very different personalities. Yuuri is a happy-go-lucky girl with a lot of energy.

On the other hand, Chito is very calm and composed. They keep traveling and exploring the destroyed city with big smiles on their faces. They’re only looking for one thing; hope.

Now, a lot of people are comparing Girls’ Last Tour with Made in Abyss. And to be honest, both of them are pretty similar in many ways. Both the anime have two young characters in a post-apocalyptic setting. However, the tone of both the anime is different from each other. In Made in Abyss, both the characters have an apparent goal in their mind. However, the characters in Girls’ Last Tour are only trying to survive. They’re not trying to discover anything, nor are there any adventures for them. This sets both the anime apart.

One thing that surprised us was how this anime is portrayed. It is very relaxing. We can hardly tell if the characters are ever out of their comfort zone. Some people might feel like it’s going too slow, or it might make you feel bored at times. There isn’t much going on. The whole focus is shifted on our two main characters being goofy.

The way both Chito and Yuuri are portrayed is impressive. Both of them are there to make up for each other’s weaknesses. This makes them an unbreakable and exciting duo.

Girls’ Last Tour does look like a very depressing anime with all the dark themes. However, it’s pretty wholesome, surprisingly. And we absolutely love it. It could’ve leaned more towards nihilism. But all we see is gratitude for being alive and well. All of this is because of both the main characters' fun antics. Their chemistry is commendable.

The only thing that we didn’t like about this anime series is that it’s prolonged. Since it has an episodic nature, there’s no worldbuilding either. Other than that, the story is terrific, and there are no issues with the plot.

Chito and Yuuri are the only main characters in Girls’ Last Tour. Chito is a little more mature and acts as the brains of the duo. She’s very reliable and understands Yuuri well. Yuuri wouldn’t have survived if Chito wasn’t there for her. At times, both of them end up arguing with each other, and their personalities clash. But Chito talks some sense into Yuuri’s brain, and everything is back to normal.

On the other hand, Yuuri is a pure airhead. She’s very annoying, eats a lot, and can become unbearable at times. However, she has a very caring personality. Yuuri is not the only one who has shortcomings. Chito is prone to panicking whenever something goes wrong. And that’s when Yuuri is there for her, calming Chito down.

Both the characters are very well-written, and their personalities are also very realistic. The best thing about them is how they become each other’s strengths and face the challenges waiting for them.

The animation for Girls’ Last Tour is simple and complicated at the same time. The colors used for this anime are all dark, except for the dreams when we can see some light. The background is stripped of nature. There are no trees, grass, mountains, or anything that could represent life.

The dark background devoid of nature in itself is very romantic. Other than that, the cute character design also makes up for the grim and dark experience. So, the animation suits the anime’s overall theme, and we have nothing to complain about in the animation department!

We’re graced with a very simple yet stunning opening soundtrack for the anime that also goes well with the anime’s theme. Each episode has a piece of eerie and melancholic background music that suits the overall vibe of this anime series. All the theme songs are very catchy and also not easily forgotten.

The voice actresses did a great job voicing the two main characters. Their voices fit perfectly with the characters’ personalities as if they were made for Chito and Yuuri. There was definitely a lot of effort put into the music department, and it shows.

Girls’ Last Tour is surprisingly a straightforward and easy-to-understand series despite its complex and dark themes. We’ll; definitely recommend you watch this series as it’s almost a masterpiece! It makes you think about life and makes you feel gratitude for being alive and well.
