Kino’s Journey Some of the best philosophical anime don’t tell us about the philosophical ideas they’re presenting. There’s no advertisement about them containing the elements of philosophy. On the other hand, the anime that advertise this element tends to bore us. Kino’s journey serves us with the best philosophical features without announcing beforehand, which works really well in getting our attention. It lets us know about many different cultures, customs, and traditions in short story form, which does not bore us. We’ll be reviewing this anime in detail below, so if you want to know more, keep reading! Kino is a 15-year-old young traveler who happens to come across a talking motorcycle called Hermes. They grow close to each other and start their journey to different lands, exploring unknown traditions and cultures. They come across many different things that surprise them and make them quite emotional because of their tragic nature. They meet different people with different goals, each of them having their own stories. Those people greatly influence Kino, and she learns a lot from them. Both Kino and Hermes do not question the values and beliefs of the people they come across. They only observe them and learn good things from them. They believe that things are just fine how they are, everywhere. The best thing about Kino’s journey is that it does not “make” you feel things or tell you to feel a certain way. It does not force its philosophy on you but lets you think about the events happening and lets you conclude yourself. You’re going to get the message clearly without anyone telling you. Another good thing about Kino's Journey is its episodic nature. While it might turn some viewers off, personally, it saved us from boredom. Every new episode has something fun and exciting that keeps us coming back for more. There are no cliffhangers, so it’s a good thing. We need to talk about the seriousness of the series. It is pretty disturbing. It can get pretty dark sometimes. But the alarming nature of this anime series is also pleasant. The subtlety is just incredible. Kino's Journey is far from reality. And it should be. It is a symbolic piece of work. We shouldn’t be comparing it with real-life as all the events in this anime series are not plausible. There is symbolism everywhere, and this series succeeds in clearly understanding the symbolism and the messages. Not a lot of anime have this potential. While some people might think they need to be a literature or philosophy major to understand what’s going on in Kino’s Journey, that’s not the case at all. You just have to be observant to understand the subtle messages this series is trying to give you. It’s just that simple. Overall, in terms of plot and story, Kino’s Journey does a phenomenal job. There are no flaws in the plot, and we love how every theme is portrayed. So, it’s 10/10 for us! Kino And Hermes are the two main characters that are incredibly well-designed. Kino’s character is quite indifferent, and she doesn’t care what’s happening in the areas she explores. She’s a pure stoic. Hermes is the only one that can make Kino talk and care. Other characters do not serve a lot to the story because of the episodic nature of the series. Kino and Hermes are the only ones we feel close to and sympathize with. So, there’s nothing much to talk about the characters. Kino’s Journey’s strength does not lie in its artwork. Though the artwork itself is pretty decent and unique, the vintage-style animation is not everyone’s cup of tea. However, it’s very refreshing to see a different kind of animation. The quality of the animation is consistent throughout the series, which is definitely commendable. The movements are fluid and smooth. And the backgrounds are well-made. Some supporting characters are not eye-catching and just seem very ordinary. But other than that, the quality of the animation is phenomenal! The best thing about Kino's Journey is the voice acting. Kino’s voice acting is perfectly done. There is little to no background music, though. That’s where we’re disappointed because if there were a little background music, we would be feeling everything even more intensely. The opening and ending soundtrack is just amazing. They suit the overall theme of Kino’s Journey well. Other than the lack of background music, everything is perfect! Kino’s Journey is such an artistic masterpiece. It delivers its message well without shoving it down the viewers’ throats. Kino’s Journey did well with the deeper themes and depicted different cultures and people as a philosophical anime. So, we’d recommend you to watch Kino’s Journey as we enjoyed it as well.
