We all have passions that we chase, no matter how chaotic our mundane lives get. It doesn’t even have to be something grand or noticeable; as long as it makes you happy, that’s all that matters. While knowing what to sacrifice for our passions and what not to is important, we try our level best to keep that fire burning within us to drive us forward and live a life we won’t regret by the end. Sadly, many things can extinguish that fire, so we must find a way to keep the boat afloat without hurting those we care about. This can be pretty challenging…..

The story revolves around Prince Lloyd de Saloum, who was once just another commoner, unable to master magic despite his knowledge and obsession with it. His chance arrives when he is reincarnated into the current royal lineage, born into a small body having seemingly infinite mana, allowing him to pursue all he was denied in his past life by setting out on a mission to master all things arcane. What’s more, since he is the seventh prince, he has no right to the throne, giving him all the time in the world to develop his abilities as freely as he desires. Unfortunately, ancient seals used to imprison powerful demons begin to break down during his time, releasing the horrific dangers they contain and endangering the kingdom's peace. As fate would have it, Lloyd's unmatched magical powers seem to be the key to bringing down these terrible monstrosities roaming about, making his abilities indispensable for neutralizing the looming threat. If all things were to descend into chaos, how would Lloyd achieve his obsession with reaching the pinnacle of magic?

I was expecting generic Isekai slop here, but this series genuinely left me surprised. From the first episode itself, it does a fantastic job of hooking you into the story, and by around episode 5, I was fully prepared to see the whole season through. One primary reason it’s so good is that it doesn’t drag its feet; it gets to the point fast, and the quick pace keeps you invested, all while being hilarious and wacky. The first half of the show establishes the premise, characters, and world in a clear and somewhat endearing manner before delivering a powerful finale in the final 3-4 episodes. While Lloyd is very overpowered, the show actually presents a solid antagonist who poses a real challenge, with unmissable stakes, wrapped in a neat emotional twist I didn’t see coming. I barely even felt the episodes pass by with the superb direction for this shenanigan-style narrative, which doesn’t seem to care about telling some grand overarching story, and that is a good thing in this case.

In the character department, Lloyd steals the show by being an absolute demonic beast beneath a cute facade. He is solely focused on advancing his magical research and testing his magical abilities; unlike most clichéd fantasy plotlines, he has no interest in saving the world. He approaches battles in a truly devious and intimidating way that puts actual demons to shame, keeping things interesting before, during, and after. This kid positively evokes goosebumps, and he is not burdened by the sentimental "killing is bad" slogan. And yes, perhaps they were going to audiences that liked Shotas here and creating situations that emphasize it, but it doesn’t drag the show down too much.

The supporting cast, despite looking like generic archetypes, are actually solid characters with neat relationships to the MC. The most notable ones are Langlis Sylpha, a busty maid with peculiar obsessions; Tao, a martial artist with a crush on the MC’s other self; and the remainder of Lloyd’s royal family. Being as OP as he is, you’d think this family would want to make him the King, but nope, they actually respect his wishes and even aid non-magic users in the kingdom. What’s more, each member of the royal family seems unique, with their own interests, despite having limited screentime. This was so refreshing to see, because functional, supportive royal families are rare in anime.

The Art and Animation department is surprisingly competent for a seasonal Isekai show. The art is just beautiful, fully capturing the radiance of this fantasy world with its own unique style. The character designs are also distinct, bright, colorful, and simply full of life, and you love watching their shenanigans unfold on screen. However, the choreography is exceptional; the sword fighting incorporates previous training sessions to highlight the meticulous planning involved, demonstrating the purpose behind each movement and action. The same goes for the magic battles, where every spell is well thought out, and the execution is always creative and unique, with visually stunning magic circles and the like. Nobody is blowing their enemies away with sheer power or plot armor here; everything is carefully planned and executed, so you enjoy seeing things play out with purpose. The animation quality is stellar, so each battle feels like a new experience.

The Sounds and Music department makes sure that the visuals do not fall flat anywhere. The Opening theme, "Kyunrious" by Kaede Higuchi, is so captivating that I found it impossible to ignore it as each episode progressed. It fits the series so well and hypes you up for the epic battles to come without missing a beat. The Ending theme, "Happy no Hiketsu" by Akane Kumada, is also a nice piece, but pales in comparison to the Opening. The OSTs are outstanding across the board, but I hardly noticed them thanks to either the bizarre but creative shenanigans on screen or the exhilarating battles that just kept me at the edge of my seat. Voice Acting is also good, but nothing to write home about; I guess you could give credit to Koichi Makoto, who deserves recognition for his Shota fanservice, if such a thing exists.

I Was Reincarnated as the 7th Prince So I Can Take My Time Perfecting My Magical Ability

Overall, “I Was Reincarnated as the 7th Prince so I Can Take My Time Perfecting My Magical Ability” is a super fun and creative show that does not hold back, much like its MC. Despite how crazy everything happening on screen is, I found the characters endearing as well, all for being who they are without reservation in a loosely built world-building. While all the jokes may not land, and some of the Shota-fanservice moments are unnerving, the overall show is hilarious and fun to watch. My advice is not to question anything outside of the battles, and you’ll have a super entertaining show that keeps the ball rolling until the end, and may even prompt you to read the Light Novel or Manga after finishing Season 2. I highly recommend this show if you’re looking for something creative and enjoyable, especially within the realms of Seasonal anime.
