Reincarnated as a Sword

If you could reincarnate, would you be the story's hero or the hero who helps another hero become the story's hero? Right, it's perplexing. This is a narrative about how noble it is to be a part of someone else's noble path of becoming a hero while being reincarnated as an object. That may sound strange, but bear with me.

Shinji Ishihira directed the series, which was created by studio C2C, with Takahiro Nagano authoring and supervising the screenplays, Atsuki Saitō designing the characters and serving as main animation director, and Yasuharu Takanashi composing the soundtrack. Gentosha Comics, Nikkatsu, NBCUniversal Entertainment Japan, JR East Marketing & Communications, Micro Magazine Publishing, BS Asahi, GREE Entertainment, and Micro House were the producers.

It was broadcast on Tokyo MX, ABC, and BS Asahi from October 5 to December 21, 2022. At Anime Expo 2022, Sentai Filmworks said that they had a license to show the show outside of Asia. The English dub came next, and it was shown for the first time at Anime Weekend Atlanta on October 28, 2022.

This anime was split into twelve episodes, each lasting 23 minutes. It was based on a light novel of the same name. It was an action/fantasy show with the themes of Isekai and reincarnation. It was aimed at the seinen audience. It was rated PG-13 for audiences aged 13 and up.

After dying in a car accident, the main character is reborn as a sword in another universe. He doesn't remember his name, but he remembers everything about his previous life. Accepting that he will always be a sword, he goes out to find a wielder by fighting and getting stronger. He comes into a caravan of slave traffickers being attacked by a two-headed bear. Fran, a young cat-girl slave, finds the sword and uses it to slay the bear. She calls the blade "Teacher" after being released from servitude, and the two begin on a quest together.

The narrator and main hero of Reborn as a Sword is Teacher (sometimes translated as Master). He is a sentient magical sword who aids Fran, the story's deuteragonist. Master serves as Fran's father and guardian. He watches out for her and keeps her safe, and he also helps her by giving Fran his powers and benefits.

Except when they mistreat or try to harm Fran, the master is courteous and polite to others. Master appears as a white longsword with three blue lines when transformed into a sword. A statue of a brave wolf and a colorful blue thread are hidden behind the light gold hilt. A crystalline lattice of blue and white threads is woven around the handle. He was a 30-year-old salaryman who liked anime, comics, VRMMOs, and light novels before being resurrected as a sword. He was friendly, liked curries, and was pretty good in the kitchen, but he had never been on a date before.

Fran is the second main character in "Reincarnated as a Sword," and she is also known as the legendary Black Lightning Princess (Kokuraiki). Fran is a young black cat girl with dark eyes who is exceedingly charming, attractive, and small. She has short black hair; however, in both the light novel and the manga, she has dark emerald hair at times. She has black cat ears and a tail made of black cat fur. Fran is typically stern and expressionless, although she gets excited about things like eating (particularly when curry is present) and defeating tough opponents.

Anyone who abuses her instructor, his curries, or makes fun of her because she is a black cat will face her fury. Even though Fran is shy and doesn't talk much, she is a kind and caring person, and her warm heart has won her many valuable allies and friends, including merchants, sailors, aristocrats, royals, and adventurers.

Fran was born in the midst of her parents' search for the myth of evolution, and they have taken her on journeys ever since she was born to uncover the route toward evolution. Her parents died before she discovered the mysteries of evolution. Fran kept looking for answers to the mysteries of evolution after her parents died. She took their goals and drive with her.

The plot is typical of an Isekai narrative. The man died and was reborn in another universe, but this time his new body is a sword. But unlike other Isekai, he is not the main character. Instead, he is a father figure to the main character.

It is far superior to my expectations. C2C Studios showed their dedication by making the animation as good as they could with the money they had. The color palettes and general animation are quite conventional, but when it comes to action moments, the choreography, cinematography, composition, cut, tempo, and overall tones show the effort they put in. Also, they tried to give each mob-like goblin its own design and make it look different from the others. The usage of CGI is also kept to a minimum, which is surprising given Shishou's design, which makes him difficult to animate. Overall, the animation was a standout feature of this show.

The audio itself was rather standard, with sound effects reminiscent of video games and songs that didn't particularly stand out. Kishida Kyoudan & The Akeboshi Rockets' "Tensei Shitara Ken Deshita" is the opening theme song, while Maon Kurosaki's "More Strongly" is the closing theme song.

The English translation of the anime has been criticized for wrongly changing the word "lolicon" to "pedophile," even though the two words mean different things. Among others who have pointed this out is Deb Aoki, the writer and editor of the Anime News Network, who previously published an article about the issue.

In the end, there is no harem and no self-insert main character to root for. The interactions between characters are always funny and interesting, the main character is not dominant and must work hard to overcome their condition, and Fran is just a top-notch cutie. Recommended!
