The year is 1889 in England. Seventeen-year-old brilliant nobleman William Twining learns of his family's bankruptcy and finds his world turned upside down when he accidentally summons a demon in his family's cellar while hunting for money to pay for his tuition. Dantalion, a demon, reveals to William that he is the "Elector" — the one who may pick the temporary ruler of Hell while its emperor, Lucifer, sleeps to recoup his vigor — and a descendant of King Solomon, who possesses demon-control abilities known as his seventy-two pillars.

William, a scientific realist, doesn't believe that demons exist and refuses to participate in Hell's power struggle. Dantalion, on the other hand, remains loyal to William and decides to attend his school until he is picked to be the interim king. As more powerful characters hear of William's ancient origins and conspire to use him, he finds himself at the center of a fight between Hell and Heaven while unraveling the secrets around him and Solomon's mysterious background.

The series' main character is William Twining (Uiriamu Towainingu), an extreme realist with a great mind. William is a nobleman who attends Stratford Academy. He is also a descendant of King Solomon and the Elector, with the power to select the King of Hell. William has dark green eyes and blond hair. He has a droopy ahoge on top of his head and pulls his hair back sometimes. William, a firm realist, is quite arrogant, especially about his intellect, which he takes great delight in, leaving him sensitive to praise and putting him in perilous situations. He also takes great pride in the Twining name and is obsessed with keeping his records spotless. He is very ambitious. He is also very proud of the Twining name and is obsessed with maintaining his pristine records. He has a lot of ambition.

Dantalion (Dantarion) is the 71st of Solomon's 72 pillars, despite being the first demon called and a contract made with him. He is the Grand Duke of Hell, and he leads 36 legions. In his demon form, Dantalion is a tall young man with black hair artfully parted to the right in an untidy way. He has red-violet and piercings on both of his pointed ears. In his human form, Dantalion's hair is perfectly combed and no longer unkempt, giving him a more controlled image. He's dressed in the traditional school outfit. Dantalion is renowned for his arrogance, having displayed a love for athletics despite stating he was home-schooled owing to bad health as a fitting backdrop when he joined William's school, going under the pseudonym of "Dantalion Huber."

Sytry ( Shitor) is Solomon's 12th pillar, a viscount and Prince of Hell who rules over 60 troops of Hell. Sytry is a guy with startlingly feminine characteristics - He is referred to as a gorgeous or lovely "puppet" by his uncle. He appears greedy, arrogant, and nasty at first, threatening to steal Isaac's soul if he is not sent to the 'Elector' immediately. He, too, was adamant about being picked. Camio (Kamio) is Solomon's 53rd pillar and Beelzebub's choice for Hell's replacement ruler. He controls 30 armies and is Hell's great president. He's half-demon. Camio is a tall, slim man. He sports short green hair with two long strands that reach over his shoulders and have a green-to-white gradient in the anime. Camio is the most composed of the three choices. He is educated and gentle with everyone, making him popular among humans and demons.

There's also a persona for every emotion, from stiff to jocular to adamant to joyful. Every scenario is meticulously detailed, and each character is custom-made to fit their personality. The colors are all different and bright.

One of the most intriguing and somewhat convoluted stories I've encountered in my anime-viewing career. A rock-headed realist with authority to choose Hell's new king. A roid-raging demon and his sidekicks vie for the position of Hell's new king. The setting is Victorian England. The plot revolves around a young high-school adolescent called William Twining, and the setting is similar to that of Black Butler. There are angels in the center of it. It's jam-packed with action and comedic relief.

Takuya Eguchi, Takuma Terashima, Yoshitsugu Matsuoka, and Tetsuya Kakihara deliver the opening and closing themes, "Believe My Dice" and "A Shadow's Love Song," respectively. On July 24, 2013, a CD of the songs was released.

Those who liked "Devils and Realists" were presumably fans of Kuroshitsuji or other supernatural or "master and servant" anime. It's a light and short anime. However, it does not require a second season because there is enough narrative to develop a spinoff/sequel.  Recommended!
