Death March To The Parallel World Rhapsody
Death March To The Parallel World Rhapsody’s manga was quite popular back then, and everyone was excited when its anime adaptation was announced. The anime came out back in 2018, and everyone thought it would be like every other action-packed isekai anime.
However, it is more than just an action-packed anime. Featuring elements of RPG, the premise of this anime sounds interesting. So today, we’ll be talking about Death March To The Parallel World Rhapsody in detail. Let’s get started!
The story introduces us to Ichirou Suzuki, who is a corporate slave and works as a programmer. There is no charm in his life, and he only sleeps whenever he gets the chance to. One day when he woke up from sleep, he found himself in an RPG world.
The RPG world he was in was a mix of all the games he had been debugging in his real life. He noticed a change in his appearance as he appeared younger. His name also changed from Ichirou to Satou. That was the name he used while testing his games.
Just when Satou was trying to comprehend the situation, a group of Lizardmen started attacking him. Satou cast a spell on them involuntarily and made them vanish. This move increased his level to 310. Satou becomes a powerful adventurer and decides to explore the new world full of magic and unknown dangers until he finds a way back home.
This anime does sound like an action isekai. However, it mixes both the action and slice of life elements and presents something more exciting and fun to watch. The RPG setting is pretty heavy in this anime, and just like a traditional RPG, it lets characters meet other characters and makes them go on different adventures.
The manga readers are complaining that the anime didn’t spend enough time on the characters' backstories as the manga did. Even though the manga was slow, it didn’t show pointless stuff. The anime contains a lot of fillers. The story got slow, and it felt tedious. The creators were just dragging the anime because of the pointless fillers.
Another problem with the anime is that it should’ve been more colorful and more expressive in terms of storytelling. So, there are definitely some issues with the plot, and it is not devoid of any flaws. But it’s still pretty enjoyable if you get through the first few episodes without sleeping.
This anime is a harem isekai as well. And a lot of characters were introduced with their backstories and all. Now, when the characters are given enough time and their pasts are explored, you feel a sense of sympathy with them.
However, the way of introducing the characters in this anime is not proper. You are introduced to a particular character with her past explored, yet you can’t sympathize and care about her. That’s the main issue with the side characters of this anime. They don’t have exciting personalities, nor do they get any character development. Satou’s harem only looks cute.
Talking about the personalities of the side characters, they felt bland. They were just one-dimensional characters and were a part of Satou’s Harem. There was nothing special about them.
On the other hand, our MC is a good character. He’s mature, humble, and caring. Even though he's highly overpowered in the fantasy world, he doesn’t go off showing his powers to the rest of the world needlessly.
The character department of this anime could’ve made some improvements. Everyone except Satou is a bland character. Only Satou’s character stands out and makes us commend him.
Death March To The Parallel World Rhapsody was animated by Silver Link. We expected good things from Silver Link, but it served us with pretty average animation. The RPG setting could’ve been stunning, but it was mediocre. The biggest problem is the CGI.
Other than that, the characters don’t look well animated at all. They all look drawn by some novices. All the female characters have the same faces but with different hair and body types. They should've been made to look different from each other.
The action scenes were not smooth. The body movements felt awkward and slow. The animation could’ve been better if the animators had been more creative.
The opening and ending theme songs of this anime were pretty average as well. They were not memorable, and you won’t find yourself humming the lyrics of the songs at random times. The video game music that plays in the background is pretty fun to listen to, though.
A few emotional and slow tracks are played in the background of the emotional scenes. Sadly, the main themes are not as good as the other minor melodies and background sounds.
The manga readers were excited about the anime adaptation, but sadly, it disappointed them. We got a good chunk of action and wholesome scenes, but the execution was poor. If you’re a fan of isekai and want to try something new with the elements of RPG, you can definitely try out this anime.
