Sleepy Princess in the Demon Castle

"What would you do if you were kidnapped and imprisoned by demons?" Obviously, you will always strive to find a means to escape from being their prisoner in this scenario. But would you rather flee or sleep it away? How do we even know if demons are as terrible as tales portray them to be? Again, it is best not to judge a book by its cover. This is a one-of-a-kind story, to say the least!

At a time when humans and demons were still at odds, Tasogare, the demon king, kidnapped our princess. He had her locked up and just provided her with an old mattress and sheet to sleep on. With such inexpensive items, how is our princess meant to sleep soundly? So, Suya risks her life to get the pillows, blankets, and other expensive things that make sleeping more comfortable. She will do anything to get what she wants, even if it means facing ghosts, monsters, or even the demon king himself.

She starts by making a DIY cushion out of her Teddy Demon Guards' fur and an "air mattress" out of the magical Shield of the Wind. The princess's guards, who are stupid demons, soon find out that their hostage wants to be treated like royalty and nothing less. When Syalis's plans cause her to die suddenly, if only for a short time, she chooses the Forbidden Grimoire to read at night.

Princess Syalis (Suyarisu Hime) is the protagonist of the anime. Her full name is Aurora Sya Lis Goodereste, and she is the princess of the Goodereste Unified Human Nation. She is a tiny and slim girl with white-light purple hair that is tied into four portions at the bottom with purple ribbons. On the other hand, she tries frantically to conceal that she has a short tongue.

This girl is a complete sleepyhead who can fall asleep anytime and everywhere in a matter of seconds, with only a few exceptions. She is also a very goal-oriented person who is willing to go to any length to get what she wants, even going so far as to sacrifice her life for a good night’s sleep after realizing that she can be revived by the Demon Cleric. She would just walk out of her cell and ask the monsters in the Demon King's Castle to find the best materials for her bed to make it as easy and comfortable as possible.

Twilight, the Demon King, is the Sleepy Princess's biggest enemy in the Demon Castle. He is the Demon Castle Lord that took Aurora Sya Lis Goodereste hostage in the first place. He proclaims to have the most power in the world, which is currently divided between humans and demons, but the matters he's most concerned about are event banners and game balance.

He also seems to be a very bad person, but this is just a front because he is actually a bit of a wimp. He is always thinking of strategies to lure Dawner the hero to him, and he grows concerned at the prospect of being vanquished, even setting out weapons and gadgets to make the hero's task easier. Aside from that, he is a great leader for the demons that live in his stronghold; nonetheless, even he cannot stand up to Syalis, for whom he actually cares.

Doga Kobo, the studio that made this anime, did an excellent job at designing a bright setting that complements the anime's ambiance. The character designs are also really charming, especially the teddy devils. Inori Minase, as predicted, is an ideal VA for Syalis. Her voice is quite soothing and silky, which suits her nature well. The ambient music also matches the present ambiance, especially when Syalis is feeling relaxed and goes “suyaaaaa.”

The opening and closing songs are particularly excellent; they are cheery songs that make me happy whenever I hear them. Inori Minase herself sings the opening theme, "Kaimin! Anmin! Syalist Seikatsu" ("Sleep! A Good Night's Sleep! Syalist Life"), and ORESAMA sings the closing theme, "Gimmme!"

So if you're stressed out following a long day at work or school, this anime will surely give you a much-needed boost. I also highly recommend this show to followers of comedy and anyone who enjoys a good, funny, and unique anime!
