Attack on Titan Review
A GENUINE MASTERPIECE
Attack on Titan is one of the most popular anime today with fans all around the globe. With both the manga and anime coming to a close pretty soon, fans worldwide are anxiously waiting to see just how this series will end.
I can say without any kind of doubt that Attack on Titan is a real masterpiece with a story that will be remembered for many years. Today, I'll be taking a closer look at all the different aspects of this anime that make it one of a kind.
Plot & Story Progression
The story of Attack on Titan takes place in an alternate universe in which viscous beings called the titans exist. These mindless creatures are colossal in size, and they love to eat human flesh. Almost all of humanity has gone extinct because of these creatures! The remaining humans live trapped inside huge walls to protect themselves from the titans.
The plot of this anime follows the story of Eren Yeager. Eren is a young boy whose only dream is to go out of these walls and explore the vast world. One day, the Titans managed to break one of the gates protecting these humans and started to eat all of the innocent people ruthlessly. That day Eren's mother gets eaten in front of him, and he decides that he will exterminate all of these titans and save humanity.
It sounds like a simple plot, right? Well, yea. This plot is not insane and makes the anime seem like just another edgy shounen with a cliché protagonist. However, Attack on Titan is something completely different. The story of this anime changes throughout each season because of many insane and mind-blowing plot twists. This is a show that seems simple and straightforward at first but grows into something extremely complex as you keep on watching.
Animation & Art Style
The animation and art style of Attack on Titan are both breathtaking! The art style seems quite intense and unique, and it quickly draws us in, and the animation is extremely fluid. The transitions between scenes are perfect, and all the fights in the anime are just filled with intensity. Overall, Attack on Titan is an absolute treat for all kinds of anime watchers!
Sadly, the latest and final season of Attack on Titan does not really look as good as the previous seasons. The titan battles are now animated using CGI, but the overall story and pacing are still pretty good, so you will definitely enjoy it.
Characters
The characters in this anime are what truly intrigue me! Attack on Titan contains some of my favorite characters in the world of anime and the best protagonist that an anime series can ever have. Let us take a closer look at the personalities of some of these characters.
Eren Yeager:
Like I said before, Eren Yeager is the best protagonist in the world of anime! I know this sounds like a pretty absurd claim to someone who has not read the manga. However, I will try to explain Eren's character as best as possible without spoiling the show. Simply put, Eren is a shounen character in a seinen world. This means that Eren's character acts like many other cliché shounen characters, but the world he lives in is not really generous. Eren's simplistic personality grows as the show progresses.
Erwin Smith:
He is the devil that humanity needed but did not deserve. Erwin Smith is the best commander that the Survey Corps could have ever asked for! He is a man who is not afraid of making the biggest sacrifices to ensure humanity's survival. Erwin is a man with a dream, and his nerves are made of steel.
Armin Arlert:
Armin is Eren's best friend, who also wants freedom. Armin's ultimate dream is to see the world outside of the gigantic walls. This boy can seem like an unlikable useless character at first, but Armin truly shows off his skills as an awesome strategist as the series progresses.
Mikasa Ackerman:
Mikasa Ackerman is probably the most simplistic yet beautiful character in the entire series. She is the most powerful female character in the series, and her obsession with Eren knows no bounds.
Levi Ackerman:
Levi Ackerman is one of the most popular characters from the series, who seems quite overrated. However, as the story progresses, we slowly discover captain Levi’s real personality and the story of his life.
What Makes Attack on Titan So Special?
If you think that Attack on Titan is overrated, you definitely dropped the show before watching the third season. Attack on Titan is currently my favorite anime that will go down in history as one of the best anime series of all time. I also thought that this anime was overrated after watching only the first season. However, things start to make sense as you keep on watching.
I personally love Attack on Titan because of how realistic it is. When I call it realistic, I am not trying to say that man-eating monsters can exist in our world as well. I am just trying to point out the fact that nothing happens in this anime for the sake of "entertainment." Everything that happens happens for a complex reason.
Also, the foreshadowing in this anime is insane! The first episode gives you so many plot points that get discussed at the end of the entire series. All the episodes of this masterwork are connected, and they work together to give us a story that will get remembered for ages.
Conclusion
Attack on Titan is a masterpiece that deserves all the praise that it gets. While the anime’s latest season is not as good as the first three seasons, the story is still just as good! I'd personally give this anime series a rating of 10/10, and I think it's the perfect anime for fans of the shounen, seinen, and psychological genres.
