Let’s Fund Some Indie Comics!!
Part One!!
Some time ago, pinnedupink.com began trolling its social sites, and we were super excited about the amount of indie comic creators online. When we say indie, we don.t mean IDW, Dark Horse, or 9 Valiant. What we mean is the self-starter, self-published creator, often publishing for free. So while the content is free, it isn’t free! The creators we follow, troll, and sometimes like their content but never join in on the crowdfunding, This isn’t a guilt trip, but in the era of free content, it is effortless to forget that some work went into that content.
We came across Metheena a few months back on Twitter. She went public with her crowdfunding campaign via Kickstarter, and we decided to show some support, after which we reached out to see if Metheena would drop us a line so we could get a bio and background. All art in this post is from her upcoming release, “Beckoning Of Aetherius: The Feminist Part 2. An Indie Comic.”
So enough waffling from us here is Metheena!!
I'm Metheena. I'm a concept artist, illustration, storyboard artist, and writer. I've been an artist all my life. My earliest memory was when I was around 5 drawing my parents’ bathroom trash can. I remember getting frustrated about why I couldn't make the shapes I was drawing look like something relatable, lol. I'll never forget that day.
I began becoming more confident in 3rd grade when I finished a painting that to my surprise, everyone loved. It was the first time I was ever accepted by anyone. I didn't fit in anywhere in society. I still don't, but art has always been that one thing that connected me with people.
I graduated from college, with a major in Illustration and a minor in animation. I've worked for various companies from film to video games. This comic series is my way of giving art directly to the audience, and connecting with them on a deeper level through meaningful stories, and hopefully helping people who feel lost in life to heal, and feel a meaningful, positive sense for humanity.
