Noein: To Your Other Self
Noein: To Your Other Self is the kind of anime that starts very confusing and weird. This confusion and weirdness give birth to something magnificent and worth watching. We’ve come across many anime with strange concepts that seem disturbing at first, but when we get the hang of them, they’re some of the most beautiful pieces of work we’ve ever watched. The concept of quantum physics and time spaces is hard to grasp, but Noein: To Your Order deals with it decisively.
With that being said, let’s start our review of Noein: To Your Other Self and let us enlighten you about what this strange anime has in store for you.
The story revolves around four elementary school students who want to take a test of courage at a graveyard. Yuu Goto is one of the children who has a very strict mother. Haruki Kaminagi, the other student, tries to help Yuu by pulling him out of that controlling household. As she’s doing that, she comes across a silver-haired man in her vision, and later in the graveyard, the children come across the silver-haired man again.
The children assume that the visions they are seeing are just ghosts. However, the images that appeared before them were the Dragon Soldiers. They came from another dimension known as La’cryma. Their sole purpose for coming to the present was to collect the “Dragon Torque” that is supposed to be a ray of hope for their survival. Now, the silver-haired man is apparently another version of Yuu. And the Dragon Torque he’s looking for is Haruka herself. Now, Haruka must save herself from the Dragon Knights with the help of her friends.
The concept of different time-spaces is impressive, and it is well fleshed out in this series. It is also paired up with Quantum Physics which gives the series an edge as well. Such concepts usually make a series a complete disaster most of the time. However, with Noein, it’s not the case.
The complex themes are adequately explained to us, and we understand everything nicely. We’re also given the freedom to think, coming to conclusions ourselves. It actually makes us use our brains which is a great thing.
We notice that the plot development happens because of utilizing many theories about science and putting them to good use. At the start, it was hard for us to understand all the theories. However, as the plot developed, we got to understand everything perfectly. The pace slowed down at a point to let the viewers understand every bit perfectly. That’s why it is so easy to understand the events going on in this anime.
One thing that we love and appreciate about this anime is that it is free from all the fanservice. We have some disturbing disfigurement or even light violence, but that is a necessary theme for this anime.
Overall, we have no complaints about the plot and the story. Everything is well executed and is true to itself. There are no unnecessary plot holes, and everything is there in front of us. So, it’s a 10/10 from our side.
Having character-driven action, the characters of this series are far from being shallow and one-dimensional. Each character has a unique personality, and they’re all very well fleshed out. There’s nothing awful other than ending the series without providing any character development. However, this is not the case with Noein. It does the character development just right. Each character is memorable and well-rounded. They’re all highly relatable as well.
The characters provide very little comic relief as the series is supposed to be sad and tragic. However, there are a few light-hearted moments between the characters that balance things out well. You’re not just watching them with tears in your eyes and tissues by your side. The characters make you smile with a few sweet moments between them.
So, for characters, we’re amazed to see their progress and development in the anime. They’re very well fleshed and given real and relatable personalities. The creators did great in the character department as well.
Now, the animation part might not look so great to some people. However, we liked how the characters were designed. Sure they don’t look super clean, but that’s how they’re supposed to suit the concept of this series. Sometimes the animation looks exceptionally fluid, and sometimes, it seems very simple. So, there’s a good balance.
The series is heavy on CGI. It looks great in general, but it’s not entirely flawless. The background design is well made and suits the concept of the series well. The action scenes are unforgettable and just make you watch them over and again. So, it’s a 10/10 from our side for such great animation!
There is nothing much to complain about when it comes to the sound of the series. The soundtracks are not over the top good, but we don’t hate them either. They’re pretty decent when we first listen to them. The background music went well with the overall vibe of the series. The intense scenes had some extreme background music which we loved.
It won’t be an exaggeration to say that Noein: To Your Other Self is a gem of a series. The themes are well explained and well used throughout the series. There are no flaws that are glaring at us. Everything is well-paced and well-balanced. If you’re into sci-fi and complex themes, you need to check out this anime series!
