Earth Maiden Arjuna
Today, we have a pretty old anime to talk about, Earth Maiden Arjuna. It first came out in 2001, featuring some fundamental lessons in it. We’ve noticed that such anime or movies don’t get as much popularity as they should.
However, we find that such an anime exposes the bitter realities of society, and Earth Maiden Arjuna is one such anime that caught our eye. It deals with some of the critical issues our planet faces, and they need to be addressed. Let’s talk more about this series and how it deals with certain complex matters that many other anime fail to discuss.
Juna Ariyoshi is an inquisitive school girl who has a natural affinity towards nature. Juna is on a date with her boyfriend, Tokio Oshima, when she dies after an accident. However, just when we think she has died, she reincarnates again and is given a chance to live again as Chris Hawken. She is granted powers, and now she must save Earth in return. The Earth is in danger due to the forces named “Raaja” that came into being due to the toxic pollution the inhabitants of Earth have created.
Juna tries to control her powers but realizes that it is not an easy task. She must also find answers as to why technology has taken away this connection between humans and nature. She has the help of her companions that want to destroy Raaja from Wreaking havoc everywhere. Will she be able to do it?
Things are looking perfect from the start. Right off the bat, we’re provided with some good action. We thought we’d be getting some good chunk of action throughout the series. However, the action soon lost its consistency, and we were left with little to no action. This sure disappointed us as we were expecting every episode to be action-packed. The series deviates from action to romance soon, and to be honest, we loved the transition.
The way the problems are discussed in the series is quite realistic. They revolve around our environment and what we’re doing to deteriorate it even more. Whether you agree or not, we all know deep in our hearts that such problems exist in our society, and we’re happy with how this series has addressed them. Some political issues are discussed, but we do feel like they’re not very accurate sometimes. However, they do make you think.
The series does get preachy sometimes, and we don’t have a problem with that. However, some people might find fault with the series being a bit preachy. We think this is why some people don’t like such series that deal with problems going on in society. But we feel like there should be more anime series like Earth Maiden Arjuna.
Overall, we loved the storyline and the message this anime provided us. The anime went on smoothly and sometimes got complex for us. However, we still can’t complain about trivial things when we have so many things to appreciate.
Juna and Tokio are two of the best characters we’ve seen in the history of anime. Their relationship with each other is just priceless. We see a lot of character development with the two and their backstories. Both of them feel highly relatable to us. We see many side characters as well that don’t contribute a lot to the story. This is good because it gave a lot of screentime to our main characters, which led us to like them even more.
So, the character department did well with the characters and made them more realistic for us.
The series feels more like a movie than anime because of its fantastic animation and overall feel. The animation is relatively smooth despite incorporating some CGI, and It doesn’t look weird at all. The colors are very pleasing, not too bright or harsh, and the background perfectly blends with the characters. Everything is clear and clean. So, there’s nothing to complain about in the animation department. It’s a 10/10 for us.
We can’t stress enough how beautifully the music of this anime fits with everything. It’s hauntingly beautiful. The voice acting is phenomenal and suits the characters. The opening and ending soundtracks impressed us greatly with fantastic sound quality. They’re very memorable and catchy.
This anime is not your typical action anime. Despite having some action in it, it mostly shows us the feelings of a teenage girl towards society and her eagerness to fix the issues that have been there for a long time. So, we definitely recommend you watch this beautiful piece of art! It addresses the environmental issues that, we believe, must be addressed no matter what kind of content the media is producing.
