RWBY Volume Four
Volume 4 follows on the heels of Volume 3's unique and exciting conclusion, which brought so many elements that had been building up for the first three seasons to a head in a tremendous clash. Our main characters were spread to the four corners of the planet at the end of that Volume. This is precisely where the 4th Volume begins; basically, the characters reeling from past events.
It may not be as much of an action rollercoaster for most of the volume, but the time dedicated to the characters is vital to help them grow and prepare for the next big battle.
The fourth volume picks up some months after the Fall of Beacon, as the Remnant continues to heal. Because Team RWBY was split up in the last volume, they now have their own adventure ahead of them. Many of them are still reeling from the events of the previous season. Others, on the other hand, will go out into the world in a quest for solutions.
You will see four different storylines, but the amount of time given to each is far from equal. Weiss and Blake, in particular, have been mistreated. I enjoyed seeing how their parents reacted differently to each of them, but it just felt like something more substantial could be added to the story.
Weiss powers up and learns the art of summoning, but the 4th season ends before she puts her power to use. She didn't use it at all throughout the escape. Blake fared slightly better because we didn't know much about her family other than this that they were old-school White Fangers who lived in the area before the present ruthless administration gained power.
We learn that Papa Belladona was formerly in control of the White Fang before it became violent. This information was fascinating. However, the key portion at the end of the season was essentially Blake recovering her desire to face the White Fang head-on rather than fleeing.
Yang's storyline also doesn't get as much attention, but it feels more complete to me, even though it's difficult to analyze without giving away some spoilers for the end of Volume 3. After her interaction with Adam last season, Yang appears to have suffered far more direct trauma than Blake. As a result, there may be spoilers for the previous volume from here on out.
Blake gets an artificial arm to replace the one she lost. She puts the arm on and takes out her motorcycle from the storage. The motorcycle flying through Mistral is an excellent way to end the story!
The Animation Gets Better!
The new animation style is highly pleasing for the eyes. It may take some time to get used to at first because it's such a significant improvement over the previous three volumes. Things feel more fluid and less stilted. When the characters move or act regularly, it doesn't shatter immersion or appear weird, as it did in previous seasons.
The way they handled the aftermath of Pyrrha, Penny, and Roman's deaths was one of the significant aspects of Volume Four that may leave a terrible taste in your mouth. Except in two episodes where Pyrrha receives a tiny scene as a call-back/memorial, their deaths are scarcely mentioned throughout the tale.
RWBY Volume 4 is an emotional trip for our heroes and the audience. We watch our favorite characters develop in new ways and learn after the previous volume’s events. Rooster Teeth took a risk by entirely upsetting the status quo, and it paid off. It may not be as exciting or dark as Volume 3, but it's a fantastic follow-up that appropriately sets the stage for the next chapter of the series.
Say Hello to New Characters
Several new characters were introduced in this volume, but not all lived up to the hype. Some of the new characters, on the other hand, are memorable and add to the volume's overall tone. One thing I and many other fans acknowledge is that the show's tone has changed. RWBY began as a lighthearted and simple show, but it has already evolved into something far darker than any of us anticipated. That's how the tale is now, and despite the changes, it's still worth seeing. This shouldn’t go without saying that RWBY Volume 4 contained a lot of fantastic moments that have set the stage for the next volume's theme.
There is a Bonus (Two Actually)
Two bonus elements explain the world in greater depth: ‘A Grimm Introduction,' which introduces the audience to the Grimm, which exists in various forms, and ‘The World of Remnant,' where you will be taken to different regions and have a closer look into their world. These provide a more extensive description of the RWBY universe and additional information that may not be entirely presented within the plot.
Spoiler Alert!!
This season is about all characters facing their demons, developing as humans, and eventually reuniting; however, volume four skips the last section. Volumes four and five could have been merged into a single season, a somewhat longer season, and the ending would have been epic. In truth, it doesn’t happen until the very last chapter of volume five. I am sure you’re now anxious to know what happened in volume 5.
While the season made a few blunders, RWBY Vol.4 made the “World of Remnant” into an art. Thankfully, it didn't have to be flawless to get a flawless result. Nobody died this season.
Our four main protagonists, each with their own missions, are all heading to Mistral, where Haven Academy is located, and knowing that it is also Salem's next target, things are about to get real! Move on to volume 5’s review to learn what happens next.
You might be disappointed after watching the 4th season; it didn’t have anything sustainable, but I assure you the best is yet to come. So stay tuned!
