Val X Love
There’s no gainsaying that this anime offered nothing related to the title, as it wasn’t even romance as the “Love; in the title had suggested. And yeah, it does have some problems, and you just can’t miss that, even from the first episode.
Asides from the fact that the story isn’t well-aligned at all and seems like it was just written in a somewhat shabby manner just to give the girls a reason to live with Takuma Akutsu, it just can’t even be classified into the hentai genre, as it only teases it.
Unlike other anime that you’d end up liking or admiring or even start showing some amount of piety for the main character, it’s an absolute zero with the MC here. Takuma Akutsu is just a high schooler that is wimpy, grumpy, and quite scary.
No doubt the art and graphics are really okay, and it’s quite alright to say they’re the only perfect things about the anime. I’m not saying it’s entirely bad, but a lot of stuff about it just stands out to not be up to standard, not well aligned, and just clumsy. But how does a female Valkyrie making out with a human being increase her powers and levels?
Understandably, you want to include near-nude scenes in some settings, but why should that be included in even fight and gory moments? Literally, every Akuma they encounter ends up tearing up a piece of clothing from either of the girls’ bodies, showing private body parts. And the fight scenes seem rather too stressed or forced, as they’re just rather vague and without good suspenseful content.
Another thing to look at is the musical aspect of this anime; I just don’t feel it. I don’t know about you, but it’s not something you can exactly vibe to, and even when you look at the meaning of the lyrics, they just seem somewhat off-key. Of course, there are always songs incorporated into anime, and fans get to love these songs to the point of using them as ringtones or even alarm tones, but this one isn’t something I’d want to have on my phone.
Let’s now take a closer look at the characters. Their profiles aren’t properly made up, and clearly, they’re just made up in a rather unsuitable manner. Take, for example, the Main Character, Takuma Akutsu. Takuma Akutsu is not a particularly handsome gentleman.
In fact, his enormous stature and unattractive appearance have earned him the moniker “devil,” which is odd because all he actually wants is to be left alone. But you know who doesn’t pay attention to what people want? That’s right, you. Takuma is identified as the only individual who can save the Earth from total annihilation by Odin, the God of Thunder and Thunderbolt.
On the other hand, the girls are just looking to follow their dad’s orders, do whatever they can to level up, gain more power, and get a pat from their dad.
As far as harem anime goes, this is one of the most straightforward offerings available. The story’s premise is ordinary, and the execution is, at most, mediocre in quality. I had a general idea of what would happen in the first episode, and I wasn’t startled by anything, with a few exceptions. I understand the target audience and why there is such a big following for these harem series.
Still, I am perplexed as to why there are so many mediocre series being produced consistently. It’s as if the authors have run out of ideas for making the tale more intriguing, and the directors have run out of ideas for how to push the production and creativity to greater levels of quality and innovation.
The series’ central redeeming aspect is the high level of production value it offers viewers. Val X Love’s animation surprised me since it was better than I expected for a basic harem anime. Given that it was so obvious when the first episode aired what was going to expire, I had difficulty maintaining concentration and considered the earlier episodes to be quite dull. It wasn’t until the later episodes that I became more engrossed and began to believe that there was hope for salvation.
But all in all, it’s actually kind of okay, if you aren’t looking for something entirely stereotypical or exact. And it does have its own moments when stoic Takuma would either be caught up in a new activity that’s still part of him making out with them and also just how swiftly his life turned around from the shunned kid to being the center of attention (not attention) of the most beautiful girls in school (that even includes the President of the Student’s Council).
I wouldn’t exactly recommend this anime to anyone, but you can feel free to see it. But here are a few rating points that might help you make a definite decision into deciding on whether or not to watch it.
Characters – 6/10 Plot – 5/10 Animation – 8/10 Musical – 6/10
