Tokyo Revengers
The Tokyo Revengers Manga is currently one of the most popular manga, which outsold even Jujutsu Kaisen, One Piece, and Attack on Titan. We’re baffled by the fact that it’s getting more popular than some of the most fantastic and extremely famous manga like One Piece. The same goes for the anime. Its popularity is off the charts, and we’re definitely blown away.
Let’s talk about some of the elements that make this anime series so unique and so popular!
Tokyo Revengers tells us the story of a Neet named Takemichi Hanagaki, who is struggling for a regular job. His life has hit rock bottom, and he has nothing better to do. One day, while he’s lazing around in his room, he comes across the news of Hinata Tachibana, his one and only girlfriend from middle school, and Naoto Tachibana, her brother, getting involved in a gang fight and drying right there. Takemichi gets massively disturbed after watching this horrible news.
While he’s still thinking about why his life turns out like this when he’s out, he’s pushed onto the train tracks. Instead of getting hit by a train and dying, Takemichi wakes up ten years in the past. It turns out that Takemichi can go back and forth in time, and Naoto is the “trigger.” Now, with the help of Naoto, Takemichi decides to change his future and save Hinata from dying. For that, Takemichi has to get involved with one of the most lethal gangs of Tokyo, The Tokyo Manji Gang.
Time traveling is not a new concept. We have formerly seen it in a bunch of anime like Erased. Tokyo Revengers, however, introduces an interesting aspect about time-traveling; the trigger. We haven’t really seen the trigger that acts as a time-traveling agent in any anime before. It’s an exciting concept, and Tokyo Revengers has done a great job introducing it.
The series has successfully kept the viewers at the edge of the seats with so much suspense. We can’t really figure out what will happen next, and even if we do, we’re mostly wrong about it. The predictability of the series is almost zero, and we love it!
The story of Tokyo Revengers keeps the viewers engaged with many exciting elements in the story. We’re all obsessed with the concept of yakuza, and Tokyo Revengers has done a great job, except for the fact that the yakuza are actually elementary schoolboys. It’s hard to wrap our heads around the fact that the yakuza gangs that are shedding the blood of each other are around 14-15-year-olds.
We love the development of the story. It does have some plot holes, but they’re not very obvious and are very subtle. Overall, the story of Tokyo Revengers is an interesting one, and we can clearly see what all the hype is about.
When it comes to the characters, Tokyo Revengers takes the cake. It presents us with many highly likable characters that we can’t help falling in love with. It’s hard for us to figure out which one is our most favorite.
We have our protagonist, Takemichi, who is a crybaby at first. But when it comes to saving his loved ones, he doesn’t back down. Takemichi’s character development is there, and we’re expecting his character to develop even more as the series progresses.
Mikey, the president of the Tokyo Manji Gang, is everyone’s absolute favorite. His character is a little more complex than any other character in the series. Though he looks arrogant, he still cares for his gang members. It feels like he has no heart, but he does have a heart that beats for his loved ones.
Draken is another character that is closest to Mikey. He has Mikey’s heart that is apparently missing, constantly telling him what to do in certain situations where Mikey fails to do anything. Their bond is more substantial than anyone in the series.
Other side characters do not feel useless at all. Each character has their own story that we get to see as the series progresses, and we’re incredibly impressed by the creators for not making the side characters look unnecessary. The series wouldn’t have moved without them.
Tokyo Revengers animation is unique, and many people are not a fan of it. However, we can see how each character is animated differently and looks different from the other. The fight scenes are pretty good and fluid except for that one episode where there was a fight between Tokyo Manji Gang and Valhalla. Something definitely went wrong there. Other than that, the animation is pretty decent and pleasing to the eyes.
We’re absolutely in love with the opening soundtrack of the series. It has the yakuza feel to it. The mild guitar riff in the background sounds extremely good. When it comes to the voice acting, we’re sold. The voice actors did a great job in giving life to the characters. Each character’s voice suits them well.
Tokyo Revengers has greatly impressed us with such a high-quality story, animation, characters, and music. It’s not surprising if it’s more popular than some other record-breaking anime/manga. Tokyo Revengers has made our summer pleasant, and it deserves all the grace it's getting. We’re absolutely in love with it!
