The Legendary Hero is Dead!
"Hero's Fall, Farmer's Call: Anime's Comedic Twist"
You go around wielding a massive sword and "nailing" monsters? Is your enormous sword growing in size as you get more excited? It sounds like one of those fever dreams. However, it sounds more amusing in an absurd sense.
You Satou oversaw the scripts for the Japanese anime series "The Legendary Hero Is Dead! (Yuuga ga shinda)," which Rion Kujo directed and Liden Films produced. Yosuke Yabumoto created the character designs, and Akito Fujiwara created the monster and prop designs. The series was broadcast on Tokyo MX and BS11 from April 7 to June 23, 2023. Crunchyroll has licensed the series outside of Asia, and Muse Communication has licensed it in South and Southeast Asia.
This lovely anime is based on the same-named Japanese webcomic series and consists of 12 episodes, each lasting 23 minutes. It adhered to the action, comedy, fantasy, and ecchi genres, and its themes were harem and parody. It was aimed at the shonen demographic, with a PG-13 classification for teens aged 13 and up.
The manga is called The Legendary Hero Is Dead! Subaruichi was the author and illustrator, and it ran as a serial on the MangaONE app and Ura Sunday website of Shogakukan from December 16, 2014, to December 14, 2020. From May 2015 to March 2021, twenty tankbon volumes were published. Shogakukan Asia is the series' licensee in Southeast Asia. A follow-up named Yuusha ga Shinda! On May 9, 2022, Kami no Kuni-hen began serialization via the MangaONE app. The first book will be released in March 2023.
Touka Scott, a regular farmer, lives in a small village. The ordinary, disheveled-looking young man with a propensity for thick thighs to annoy any female and dress her up in stockings is a person who lives entirely for his amusement. When Touka becomes embroiled in a situation in which the renowned hero is killed by one of his animal-laden traps, he is forced to pose as the revered character Sion Breydan, armed with the Sacred Sword, who shuts away the Demon King and his army in the traditional fantasy world's conflict.
The Demon King's seal has deteriorated with time, and the great hero Sion must be invoked once again to end the fight and protect humanity from demons. But, thankfully, Sion has a partner in the form of necromancer Anri Haynesworth, who harvests Touka's soul and puts it in this casket. At the same time, Touka takes over Sion's body, playing the hero in the struggle between normal humans and demons.
In his quest to avenge the Demon King, Touka is not alone. Touka's childhood friend, Yuna Yunis, accompanies him with Anri. She revealed that she aspired to be a wizard as a child. Still, her superhuman strength and lack of magical abilities irritated her more than Touka's continual bugging about the thighs and stockings event. Interestingly, the female with feelings for Sion must now deal with Touka taking over the renowned hero's body, where he can continue his thigh-loving activities. However, she must still endure the storyline.
While the execution can be hit-or-miss, it's usually considered a solid novel overall. Reading fantasy stories where the main character isn't particularly powerful is always enjoyable. It adds to the intrigue, and wars must involve some strategy. Because the main character is weak, the supporting cast has more opportunities to shine and develop, which is often lacking in fantasy fiction. This story's supporting characters were fantastic. They all play essential parts in the party's success and are more than merely fanservice relief characters, which is a huge plus point.
The characters are odd, precisely the kind of overbearing lot you'd encounter in a satire. As I've mentioned, it's ludicrous and mindless entertainment. The characters emphasize this even more. This makes the anime more appealing to me.
Their comedy and insanity make it a lot more entertaining. It would be awful if it took itself too seriously and pretended to be an inflated superhero power fantasy. It's a satire of every Isekai film ever made, replete with a clichéd supporting cast. The problem is that it is aware of it, and instead of winking at the camera, there is a proper story and plot, and the jokes are aimed at the viewer. Fan service is a feature, but it mainly serves the hilarity.
The animation is above-average. The action scenes could be more remarkable. I'm not opposed to CGI creatures in the sense of 3D, but is it a show that doesn't look to be good or better than a show that is attempting to be excellent? You're perfectly aware of your mistake. Whatever the blasphemy and grins.
It's well-crafted and flows smoothly. It appeared to be done with care but, more importantly, with enjoyment. You can even hear it in the characters' voices—they're having a great time being a part of it, and the overall sound quality helps with that.
Kana Utatane, Yūki Nara, Yamazo, and MOKA☆, a group composed of Kayo Konishi and Yukio Kondō, composed the music. The opening theme music is Masayoshi Ōishi's "Shinda!" ("Dead!"), The ending theme song is Yurika Kubo's "Kawaikutte Ijiwaru Shichau" ("So Cute That I'll Be Mean to You").
Shinda will not be perfect, and it does not have to be. It is, however, an odd and exciting chaos that will keep you entertained while you wait for the next season to begin. It will be a delightful binge session. It's absurd, humorous, and full of personality. Worth a look. So far, it is a great program; I would have given it a higher rating if they had experimented with the concept more to make it more distinguishable. However, it is entertaining for the right audience. Some people will find it annoying, for sure. You can be the judge of what audience you belong to. Recommended.
