Sk8 The Infinity
Sports anime have always been fun to watch and have created many fans for this specific genre. From Haikyuu to Kuroko no Basket, we’ve gone through an emotional rollercoaster as well as the excitement of winning and doing better. It always boils down to teamwork and sheer hard work. We can’t ignore the “Nakama Energy” that keeps the players going and tackling every calamity that comes their way.
Sk8 The Infinity is a unique sports anime and is probably something we’ve never seen in the sports genre. A sports anime about skateboarding, how interesting! Let’s find out if this anime with such a unique title and theme impressed the weeb community or ended up being a big fail.
Reki Kyan is a high school student who is obsessed with skateboarding. He shares his passion with a bunch of other people who are as much obsessed with skateboarding as him. When the night falls, all the skateboarders gather around and take part in an illegal tournament named “S.” The tournament is held by a business tycoon named Adam, who is a businessman by day and a skateboarder by night.
Reki soon befriends a transfer student named Langa, who used to go snowboarding as a child. Reki persuades Langa to practice skateboarding and take part in the tournament, to which Langa agrees. Both of them train hard to win the tournament. They also meet many other skateboarders and befriend them. Their friendship becomes something that Adam greatly yearns for. He possesses deep feelings for Langa as he was the only one who showed great potential in skateboarding, and according to Adam, he might be able to defeat him. Will Langa be able to defeat Adam the invincible?
Studio Bones again provided us with a jaw-dropping anime with such a unique and original story. The story is portrayed to ignite the love for skateboarding in everyone, even if you’re not into skateboarding at all. The cool hip-hop fans are definitely in for a treat.
Like every other sports anime, Sk8 the Infinity emphasizes the power of friendship and how it can turn a person from zero to a hero. A sports anime is nothing without this concept.
The strong bond between Reki and Langa was something that got them through a lot. Similarly, there was a bittersweet relationship between Joe and Cherry, but they were close enough to get happy or sad for each other. Another example of a strange form of friendship was between Miya and Shadow. Initially, all of them were at each other’s throats because obviously, everyone wanted to be a champion of “S.” However, Adam’s focus shifted to Langa, which made everyone help the boy beat the devil himself. The way they encouraged him and took the best out of him was the reason why he got so good at skateboarding.
Overall, the story is exciting, and it is not going to bore you at all. There are no plot holes or plot twists. It’s a pretty decent story that will suit everyone’s tastes without disappointing everyone. So, with the story department, the creators did a phenomenal job.
We get to see a lot of colorful and exciting characters in Sk8 the Infinity. Everything from their interactions to their relationships is just perfect. The main characters being Reki and Langa, are just too adorable. Other characters are very significant and relevant as well.
The personalities of the characters are entertaining. This typical flower boy named Cherry hates being called Cherry outside of the tournament, as Cherry is his alias. His relationship with Joe is exceptionally bittersweet. They’re always fighting, but they do care about each other more than anyone else. Their relationship feels like more of a husband and wife.
Our main characters are adorable together. The anime is not essentially Yaoi, but it does give some Yaoi vibes sometimes. Reiki and Langa both share a powerful bond, and despite their differences, they can’t think about living without each other.
Then we have our main antagonist, Adam. He has two personalities and is very cunning. He’s the kind of villain we’d love to see in more anime! His obsession with skateboarding gets too extreme sometimes.
Just like other departments of this anime, the animation department also deserves a high score. The character designs and backgrounds are very colorful. The scenes where they’re skateboarding are also very fluid and smooth. The facial expressions of the characters are so on point. Overall, the animation is excellent, and there are no minus points for anything in the animation department.
The opening soundtrack definitely hypes you up for what’s going to happen in the series. It’s pretty catchy and memorable as well. We can’t help but simp for all the characters because of the way they’re shown in the opening soundtrack. The background music is not very noticeable and is also not very memorable. However, it’s pretty decent. So, the creators have put some effort into this department as well.
With such a great and unique concept, Sk8 the Infinity is one of the best Winter anime for 2021. If you’re looking for something short and sweet to watch then, this is it! We don’t see many anime portraying such a unique and complex concept in such an excellent way.
