In a world where being whisked away to battle demon kings is as common as taking a high school pop quiz, "The Fruit of Evolution: Before I Knew It, My Life Had It Made" tries to blend in but sticks out like a sore thumb. Accompany the underdog-turned-hero Seiichi Hiiragi as he walks through a maze of cliches, dubious humor, and a harem that is more akin to a zoo than a high school romance. Prepare to feel embarrassed by an anime that tries way too hard to be modern but fails miserably at every turn.

One day, a man claiming to be a god hacks all the school's intercoms and orders the students to unite and prepare to be transported to another world, where he will give them special powers to become strong heroes who can defeat the demon king.

Among the students is Seiichi Hiiragi, who is bullied for his unattractive appearance. Despite none of his classmates wanting to team up with him, the so-called god transports him to another world. The problem is that Seiichi has been transported to the middle of the forest, far from his classmates and civilization.

Seiichi desperately tries to get out of trouble, but to no avail. Thinking that all is lost, he stumbles upon the so-called "Fruit of Evolution," which could be Seiichi's first step to a better life.

The Fruit of Evolution: Before I Knew It, My Life Had It Made is an anime series from the fall of 2021. It is based on Miku's and U35's light novel series of the same name. The first season of 12 episodes ran from October to December 2021. The Fruit of Evolution got its sequel in January 2023. The second season ran until March of that year and had 12 episodes. The Japanese studio Hotline was responsible for the animation.

The Fruit of Evolution: Before I Knew It, My Life Had It Made is just another bland isekai that exists only to profit from fans who will watch anything. However, to say that The Fruit of Evolution is just another dull and unimpressive story would be too nice. This series has a lot of things that make it stand out, but being unique doesn't mean being better than others, especially not in this case.

There is no need to talk about the generic beginning of this show. We all know what kind of genre this is, and we gave up on originality long ago when it came to these anime. The real problems start even before the transfer to another world takes place. As stated in the premise, the main character, Seiichi, is initially unattractive; that is, he is fat.

Because of this, his classmates bully him, which in itself is not unusual. The problem is that this joke is repeated a little too often, and at a certain point, it crosses the line. It's undeniable that the main character is chubby; there's no need to repeat it 20 more times within one episode. The joke became meaningless when the game characterized him as "barely human" because of a few extra kilos.

Unfortunately, this is not the only joke repeated too many times, and it eventually lost its meaning due to the extremes it went to. The biggest problem with this anime's comedy is that it needs to try harder to please the audience. That's why the central joke in the story is an attempt to make fun of the genre itself, but Fruits of Evolution doesn't manage to do that.

The anime makes every effort to function as a parody; however, its lack of humor prevents it from succeeding. The same three jokes are repeated from episode one to episode 12, and the fact that they weren't funny the first time definitely doesn't help. Watching this, you get the impression that Fruits of Evolution wants to pander to the crowd and conform to the trends, but the more it tries, the more the crowd turns away from this story.

The source of this tragic comedy is a story that doesn't even exist. After being transported to another world, Saiichi finds the Fruit of Evolution, which enhances his physical appearance and makes him overpowered. The concept itself is terrible because, as many of the main characters in Isekais’ have strangely gotten their powers, this is definitely one of the dumbest.

The stupidity of this story doesn't end there. In the forest where he is lost, our main character meets a gorilla with whom he falls in love. That gorilla later becomes a beautiful girl, but the fact is that he fell in love with her while she was still an animal. With this, he begins collecting women, or rather animals, for his harem, which is one of the creepiest ways to create a harem we've seen in anime.

Again, the anime tries to get away with comedy, but when the story is this sick, no amount of lousy humor can save it. After all, there is no point in all this. The entire plot of the anime is based on Seiichi wandering around the forest without any real goal.

Some episodes introduce new characters; however, the story's focus is primarily terrible and pointless comedy. And while that's common for this genre, it certainly wouldn't hurt for this story to have at least one well-done aspect.

Characters who are entirely forgettable do not help the situation. As the main character, Seiichi is one of the most boring protagonists ever. His only character trait is that he is a goodie-two-shoes. Apart from that, he has nothing to offer. He has no character or stand-out qualities; his only point is picking up women and being too strong.

The other characters are identical. Saria, the girl who was originally a gorilla, is nothing more than a pretty face whose only role is to be in love with Seiichi. The rest of the characters, unsurprisingly, aren't any better. Altria and Ellis have one character trait, and even that still needs to be fully developed. Origa Carmelia and Valkyrie leader Louise seem more like a fever dream than part of a published story.

The only character who almost brought something helpful to this show is Kannazuki Karen. The point of her character was to bring some maturity, but since Fruit of Evolution can't develop even such a simple story, all of this falls flat.

An excellent art style and decent animation frequently save even the worst series. The Isekai genre is famous for its beautiful setting and amazing fights that take your breath away, which is why many mistakes are forgiven in these shows. However, to no one's surprise, The Fruit of Evolution didn't get this right either.

Studio Hotline is not known for notable works, which shows in this one. To be fair, the animation up until the fourth episode was passable. It wasn't amazing, but it wasn't terrible either. After the first third of the anime, things go downhill, and the anime becomes less and less watchable.

The terrible animation makes the already poor-designed fights even worse. The action scenes look more like a slide show, and the rest of the story seems stiff and unnatural. The character designs could be better, too. They are very generic and, in some situations, even funny. But the biggest disappointment in production is, undoubtedly, the soundtrack.

The OST is too underwhelming, considering that one of the genres of this anime is action. Additionally, the voice acting took a lot of work to listen to. The actors are all alright; however, the roles are such that there is a lot of shouting and strange noises, and as the anime forces it, it is unpleasant to listen to the characters.

The Fruit of Evolution Before I Knew It My Life Had It Made | Pinnedupink.com

Overall, The Fruit of Evolution: Before I Knew It, My Life Had It Made is not an anime worth watching. Even if you're a lousy Isekai fan and watch it for fun, there are better choices than this anime because it's tough to enjoy.
