Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation (2021) may be one of the most controversial anime series of the year; the franchise has received a positive reaction from the general public. Mushoku Tensei promised a sequel in the near future after being one of the best-rated shows of the season.

The anime's title, "Jobless Reincarnation," already gives away that you'll be following the story of a degenerate. He is a lonely adult man who spent his days at home watching anime, playing video games, and jacking off. You can't expect a guy like that to reincarnate and instantly change his demeanor and transform into the perfect protagonist.

Guess what he'll be the second he wakes up? He was a depraved degenerate in his previous existence. People give this anime low ratings because they don't like the main character's personality or perversion. When grading a piece of work, this should not be your primary consideration.

This is the store of a wounded man named Rudeus, an adult who was severely bullied and forced to live in seclusion. We witness his battle with PTSD and gradually blossom into someone with a purpose after being given a second chance at life. Of course, this doesn’t excuse his pedophilic behavior, but we’ve known from the start that he’s a degenerate. He missed out on a childhood, education, friends, girlfriends, love, purpose, and so on in his previous life; here is his chance to make the most of a new beginning.

In any event, if you pay attention to the subtleties in the later episodes, the anime shows his trashy attitude toward women as a character’s fault. Keep in mind that this is a man who has isolated himself from society and has spent the majority of his life watching porn and eroges.

As the story progresses, he gradually discovers that maybe real girls don't act like the eroges he used to play. Women aren't just things who will pander to his sexual demands once he reaches a certain point in their assistance. We witness his regrets after attempting to have sex with Eris, even though it appeared that she consented.

On many occasions, Jobless Reincarnation shifts from charming power-fantasy to the occasionally funny side of fan service to the creepier side. Because of his fairly lecherous actions, which could have been played a little more lightheartedly, Rudeus himself makes it difficult for me to empathize with his character journey. Everything from his facial expression, internal monologue, and chuckle makes it challenging for me to empathize with his character journey.

Here’s a rundown of the main characters in the anime:

Rudeus Greyra

Rudeus or Rudy is the story's main character. He used to be an unemployed Japanese middle-aged man who his siblings eventually kicked out for being unproductive. He saves some high school students from a truck, but he dies in the process. He awoke as a baby in another universe and resolved not to ruin the second chance he had been given.

Roxy

Roxy Migurdia, a Migurd mage, and former magic tutor, is a gifted magician from the Migurd race. She fled her town since she couldn't utilize telepathy and felt separated from her classmates. She became a traveling instructor after being unable to earn a stable income as an adventurer. She eventually becomes Rudeus' teacher.

Paul Greyrat

He’s Rudeus’s father, a gifted swordsman who became proficient in all three sword disciplines at an early age, as well as a lustful guy who drew and slept with a large number of women before Zenith shackled him down.

Sylphiette

She’s Rudy’s childhood friend who is part human, elf, and beast race.

The male characters, such as Paul and Phillip, seem to encourage Rudy's more lecherous behavior even from a young age, which adds to my general discomfort with his character, particularly in the earlier episodes until just about the halfway mark in this series.

Even in later episodes, a male character is now being educated by Rudy's former master. He appears to have a recurring joke about caressing Roxy's chest before she sets him on fire. It all feels a little overdone while it's played for laughs, especially given the other subject matter.

Jobless Reincarnation is a visual delight, thanks to the film's persistent use of a soft, organic color palette that gives each character a distinct look. It implies Roxy, who has blue hair, and Sylph, who has green hair, appear to be as natural citizens of this region as the Greyrats. There are some series, such as My Hero Academia and JoJo's Bizarre Adventures, where you might want your characters to appear as they originated from other genres or even media. Still, the fact that every character seems to fit into this world is incredible.

As he faces numerous real-world concerns such as loneliness, failure, and bullying, watching this young guy relive his childhood to his early adolescent years never felt too frivolous. Rudy is a guy who can be a little scumbag at times—a he's little too perverted—but he's one you root for because the world has given him a second chance, which he clearly wants to seize.

The anime's world is as standard as an isekai anime can get in terms of plot. Rudy is resurrected into a European-inspired medieval world with the same magical aspects as most other isekai anime. The amount of detail shown in the episode, though, is what I loved the most. For example, Rudy is forced to learn the world's new language from birth in this episode. It also demonstrates how he gradually understands how the world's magic works rather than being overpowered right at once.

While watching Jobless Reincarnation, there were several moments where I felt uncomfortable, which put a damper on my overall enjoyment of the series.

However, I would say it’s a decent choice. There's a good tale here, as well as a fantastic character journey to unfold. Whether or not you get into it is totally dependent on whether or not the creepy factors deter you.
