Mob Psycho 100 III
It happened… After three long years, it finally happened. To be fair, nobody wasn’t expecting a Mob Psycho 100 third season to be adapted. Still, Studio Bones gave us a masterpiece adaptation, and we seriously thank them for that because every one of us wanted to know how this fantastic anime would end.
Studio Bones gave us a perfect ending to Mob’s story. Mob Psycho 100 is one of few anime that would make you cry, laugh, cheer and reflect on life, and thanks to that, Mob Psycho 100, without a shadow of a doubt, will go down as one of the best anime ever and also one of the best anime finales of all time.
For three seasons, we followed our boy Shigeo Kageyama, better known as Mob, in his attempt to have an everyday life despite having extreme telekinetic powers to become more popular in school, gain more confidence in himself, and have the attention of his childhood crush Tsubomi. What I liked the most about this third and final season is that every character arc and every plotline received a resolution. Let’s begin talking a little bit more about this last season:
Continuing with the explanation, this third season of Mob Psycho 100 gave us a resolution to every character arc and every plotline presented in every season of this anime and yeah, including the broccoli Mob created that is now giant and also the center of the town, yeah, they give a resolution to that too. But now, with this season, we can see a more serious and darker tone than in previous seasons, which is something I liked a lot; because a much more serious tone is something that I always appreciate and makes the plot more fun and exciting for me.
This season is mainly about Mob facing the consequences of his actions until now, beginning with years-long repression of his powers and emotions and also with the cult he started but refused to acknowledge. He is still working alongside his mentor and friend Arataka Reigen and with the office’s recruit Katsuya Serizawa in solving mysterious supernatural cases of their clients while also working on himself too on being more sociable, more independent in both his human and esper live and integrating better with his family, friends, and people around him.
Character development over here, guys! Not many anime can do that, and Mob Psycho 100 did it perfectly. But to be honest, since the beginning of the first season, Mob has changed for good in every episode in one way or another.
This third season was the total package. You can feel that this season is as epic and mind-blowing as My Hero Academia’s last season or Attack on Titan’s final season despite having a more personal and small-scale story compared to these two anime. This finale was excellent, and as I said before, it has one of the best anime finales of all time, and it will make you cry.
We always praise how well-produced this anime is; Studio Bones did a fantastic job again with Mob Psycho 100. The production was pitch-perfect, as always. The animation is incredible, the colors are on point, and the direction is outstanding. This third and final season looks even better than the previous seasons, not only in the flashy action scenes.
This time the animation is more detailed and emotional, and you feel it was mixed with love and passion. Mob Psycho 100, when it wants, can be the most well-produced anime you could find, and I have to point out episodes 6, 8, and 12, which stand out among the other episodes.
The OST is what gives the anime more personality. Kenji Kawai again worked with this season of Mob Psycho 100, and it is not a big surprise that the OST of this season is pretty damn good. The OST of this season is iconic from the first to the last track. The “bad” part is that you can go better than this. You would think Kenji could make a better OST, but it is impossible. It was too good.
The opening theme is “1,” performed again by Mob Choir and the song keeps the same energetic atmosphere of the previous ones. This opening continued with the critically acclaimed, psychedelic, heavy colors in every Mob Psycho 100’s opening. Many fans sometimes consider the song the best beginning of all, I prefer the first season’s opening, but I must confess that all of them are amazing.
The ending theme is “Cobalt” and is also performed by Mob Choir. While it is not as energetic as “1”, this ending is also fast and alternative and continues with the same type of animation in previous conclusions.
Again, the voice actors did a fantastic job bringing Mob Psycho 100’s characters to life. They had a blast while recording their voices, and you can notice that in every single episode, but mostly in Episode 12. You already know who the stand-out two were: Takahiro Sakurai and Chris Noisi for their role as the best mentor, Arataka Reigen.
Does this season look great? Yes. Is it the best animated Mob Psycho 100 season? Maybe not for you but for me, without a doubt, it is. If you are making the final season of something incredible, you have to work twice as hard as before to create a masterpiece of a season, and this season was a masterpiece. But this is a double-edged sword because many people would think it could be better if they… It will always happen, but that is not something entirely wrong. This season was damn near perfect!
