Magical Girl Site

Magical Girl Site, unlike its title, is a very dark and grim anime featuring Magical Girls. We have watched Sailor Moon previously, which is all about rainbows and sunshine, featuring some of the most adorable and gorgeous magical girls. Though we do have cute magical girls with this one, the overall vibe is very dark.

A perfect example of an anime like Magical Girl Site would be “Magical Girl Madoka Magica,” where girls sign a contract with a mysterious being for becoming magical girls. Still, they have a grim price to pay. Both the anime look all girly and bright when we first look at them, but after watching a few episodes, we realize that they’re very different from how they look and have a lot more to them.

Today, we’re going to be reviewing the anime “Magical Girl Site.” So, without further ado, let’s get right into it!

The story revolves around Aya Asagiri, who gets bullied at school and is physically abused by her brother at home. Having to face bullying and abuse every single day, Aya often thinks about killing herself. One night, Aya comes across a mysterious website called “Magical Girl Site” that claims to give magical powers to people.

Aya is confused at first and thinks that the website is a scam. But when she finds a magical girl in her locker, she’s forced to believe that what was mentioned on the website was true all along. She takes the gun with her and soon comes across her bullies. This time, she does not stand still and uses her weapon on them. The gun transports the bullies to a nearby railroad, where they are run over by the train.

Aya is confused and stressed that she ended up murdering the girls, which is too much for her. She soon finds a girl who has similar abilities. Both of them are forced to fight other magical girls as well as fight alongside them. Now, they must unveil the mystery behind the website that started it all.

It would be “ edgy “ we want to sum up the entire anime in one word. The dark elements are taken from other mega-hit series like “Sword Art Online” and “Magical Girl Madoka Magica.” However, the series failed to incorporate them properly. This is a problem with a lot of anime series. Only copying the already successful themes is not enough. Much effort is needed to put the puzzle pieces in place that many creators failed to do. That’s what happened with the story of “Magical Girl Site.”

The first episode showcased a lot of unnecessary torture. It was pretty clear that the torture was shown to gain the audience’s sympathy and nothing else. It did not make any sense. Gore and Violence must be handled in a very gentle manner as people are very sensitive about them. If they’re lazily incorporated in an anime, then it’s just plain disgusting to watch it.

Overall, there are a lot of things that are wrong with the storyline. First is the unnecessary amount of edge and darkness. And the second is the lazy incorporation of already successful themes. So, the anime failed in the department of story and plot.

It’s tough to actually point out the “characters” in the series as they all are no different from each other. Despite having various features and hairstyles, they share the same personality traits and have no exciting characteristics. They look very shallow, and we see little to no effort put into them.

The edgy elements are also seen in the characters. They’re all one-dimensional and boring. It’s pretty hard for us to like them. The creators tried very hard to use the characters to gain sympathy from the viewers but failed miserably. They appeared to be total psychos with no personalities. So, the character department also failed to impress us, unfortunately.

The only good thing about the animation of this series is the overall dark vibe. And that’s about it. The problem we’re having with the animation is the weird and stupid facial expressions that the girls have. They’re pretty empty, devoid of any emotions.

As far as the background and imagery of the anime are concerned, it’s very bland. The sunset scenes were pretty decent and used a bunch of appropriate colors. The action scenes had no flow. It was pretty weird noticing a crow not bleeding upon cutting down in half. When you’re dealing with such a grim and disturbing storyline that you think is for adults, you must also add appropriate elements to it.

In terms of fanservice, it’s there but lazily done. There were some beach scenes, and the girls were in bikinis, enjoying themselves. However, the fanservice did not reach the fans at all. Overall, the animation is not something for us to admire at all. If only the creators put some effort into it.

The opening and ending soundtracks for this anime were just okay. They were not notable or catchy. However, the voice acting was pretty good. The voice actors did a great job voicing the characters. The shiver in their voices felt very real as if they were experiencing the whole thing. We really commend the voice actors for putting in some effort into their work.

We’re highly disappointed with the story of Magical Girl Site. It, unfortunately, did not come up to our expectations. There are a lot of things the creators did wrong with the series. The series had great potential if the creators put effort into the anime and did not hurriedly and lazily complete the story. That’s all we have to say about Magical Girl Site!
