Celestial Method

Every once in a while, we anime fans need an escape from all the action, bloodshed, and destruction in anime. Slice of Life is the kind of genre that lets us escape from all the things mentioned above and is also a fresh breath of air for us. You can either create a masterpiece out of this genre or ruin it completely. Now, the Celestial Method falls somewhere in between the two. Let’s just get right into our in-depth review of Celestial Method.

We are introduced to a group of friends, Nonoka Komiya, Shione Togawa, Yuzuki Mizusaka, and Souta Mizusaka. A few days later, Nonoka moved to another city and got separated from her friends. They tried to summon a saucer to make their wishes come true. However, they thought that they had failed after getting no response and went to their homes. The group had no idea that the saucer had been floating in the air ever since they tried summoning it.

Seven years pass, and Nonoka comes back to the city she left years ago. However, she had no memories of what happened in the town when she was in it. Nonoka comes across a strange little girl named Noel, wearing weird clothes. It was through Noel that Nonoka started remembering her time with her friends there. Nonoka decided that she would get all of her friends back and repair the broken bond between them. She also tries to uncover the mystery behind Noel and the Saucer.

The story feels very original. The first episode sets the events and what to expect later in the series. However, later, the episodes start to drag the story, which can be annoying. Some of the characters also become very annoying over time. These two factors ruin the enjoyment of the story. However, the story is very inspiring if we don’t look at the minor flaws.

There are many episodes in Celestial Method that could be skipped without any problem. That’s because they’re incredibly mundane and will make you fall asleep. We see the main focus of the anime shifting from the saucer to how Nonoka wants to make friends badly. In each episode, we see Nonoka approaching a girl, hoping to be friends with her. It initially doesn’t work out until she puts some effort in the form of willpower. It works surprisingly, and then she starts finding her next target.

There were certain instances where the story did provide some entertainment. However, after some time, the story becomes too flat and dull. Some of the plotlines in the anime stopped making sense and seemed pointless. The story became predictable.

Overall, the technical aspects of this anime series were awful. When the technical aspects are bad, the other elements of the series also go down with them. However, the premise was terrific, and it had a lot of potential as well. That’s why it was painful to watch it. It would’ve been a great anime if the story didn’t fall flat because of the lack of creativity.

There are a few anime where the main character itself is a complete disaster. Celestial Method is one such anime where the main character disappoints us in many ways. Her only purpose in the anime is to be kind to others. She serves no other purpose. She has little to no importance in the series and does not get any character development.

The only character that is memorable and that does make some sense is Noel. She’s extremely adorable, and we can’t help but fawn over her. She constantly wants to be with the girls who summoned her. She hates seeing the girls in distress and tries to fix their relationship with each other.

However, Noel’s character is also not handled with care. But it’s not as ridiculous as the others. We don’t see a lot of character development with her as well. The other characters had the same problem of being flat. So, the character department lacks in many ways.

Celestial Method’s only feature that is actually praiseworthy is its animation. The art is simply amazing. It’s beautiful and pleasing to the eyes. The colors used for this anime are very bright and fresh. The background is absolutely stunning and is just a feast for the eyes.

The character designs are not as splendid as the background itself, but it’s pretty decent. The characters are straightforward with simple attire. Noel is the only character who stands out from the rest because of obvious reasons. The characters move smoothly throughout the series, and there is consistency in the quality of the animation.

The animation is probably the best part of this anime that was actually able to impress us.

The opening of this anime is quite catchy until this specific generic part ruins the enjoyment. But the opening ends well, so it’s not that bad. The ending is definitely a bit better than the opening soundtrack. The background music also makes sense and feels very appropriate with the mood.

There’s no doubt in the fact that Celestial Method is an original anime. This is what people like the most about this anime. However, the story wasn’t awe-inspiring, and the characters were poorly written as well. But Noel is definitely going to make you tolerate this anime if you want to watch it!
