Battle Game in Five Seconds
We have come across so many survival game genres that we’re just tired of them altogether. They never seem to become irrelevant. Every season, we get to see a few of them. However, some of the survival game genre anime do catch our attention. Battle Game in Five Seconds is one such anime that happened to catch our attention, and we decided to review it. So, without further ado, let’s start the review!
Battle Game in Five Seconds tells us the story of an average high school boy named Akira Shiroyanagi, who loved gaming. One day, he came across a strange girl who called herself Mion. Akira got into a battle with a strange being because of Mion but could get out of it alive.
Mion then reveals to him and many others that she had gathered together that they do not exist in the real world anymore. They’re all test subjects now and have been given supernatural powers. Akira and others are confused, but it really is happening. They’re all made to fight each other. Akira wants to be the strongest in order to crush Mion and her organization. However, it’s not easy to overcome the mysterious organization along with Mion.
This anime gives you the 00’s vibe. It looks pretty similar to Darwin’s Game but has its own story. The best thing about the plot of Battle Game in Five Seconds is that it keeps you engaged and intrigued. It’s tough to predict what’s going to happen next. Also, the fights involve a lot of strategies and critical thinking. That way, it doesn't let you get bored and drop it mid-way.
The first few episodes of this anime are excellent. After a few episodes, we get too used to the battles, and they start to look very mediocre. Some powers and a few characters aren’t explained, which leaves us hanging.
Another problem with the plot of Battle in Five Seconds is that it introduces a bunch of subplots that make it deviate from the actual storyline. There is not much development either. All the initial subplots are forgotten, and new ones are introduced. That way, the plot doesn’t make sense.
Overall, this anime does have a lot of exciting aspects. If we ignore the lack of explanation and repetition, then we might be able to enjoy the plot.
Battle in Five Seconds introduces us to a bunch of fascinating characters. Starting with our main protagonist, Akira Shiroyonagi, the way he analyzes everything is impressive. He’s super intelligent and can get out of sticky situations after using his brain for a bit. He’s nothing like other protagonists that are present in battle game-type anime. He’s not annoying, whiny, and good-for-nothing. His character is pretty decent.
Yuuri Amakage is the main female protagonist who is extremely kind and caring. She goes to the extent of losing her own life while saving a stranger. Her character goes well with the character of Akira, and we ship them both. However, the anime couldn’t create a good romantic relationship between them.
We are also introduced to many villains that we absolutely despise at the start. Our heroes, however, are too overpowered and deal with them effectively, making us root for them. The side characters are also of some significance in this anime.
They have powerful and meaningful personalities, and they contribute to the story. However, a few characters are introduced in the ending episodes that don’t get enough screen time despite having fantastic personalities. That was a bit disappointing.
Overall, the characters in Battle in Five Seconds are all significant. The side characters are not just there for the sake of being there. They make a lot of sense, and we love this about the characters of this anime series.
Animation is the weakest point of this anime. It just doesn’t look good at all. It feels like we’re watching an anime from the ’90s when it’s recently made. The movements are not smooth. The character designs are average; they don’t really stand out. And the action scenes are not amusing at all.
There should be some extent of fluidity in characters' movements in every anime. However, with this one, the actions look lagging and slow. It just ruins the fun of watching the anime. So, the animation for this one is not impressive at all.
The opening soundtrack of Battle in Five Seconds was a fun listen. It incorporated old-style music, which sounds very refreshing and fun. Other than that, the background music was quite average. It was not really noticeable either. Though the voice acting was very generic, it was done perfectly. The music department did a decent job with the soundtracks and voice acting.
Even though Battle in Five Seconds has a lot of flaws, we can’t deny that its concept is pretty interesting. It had a lot of potentials if the plot did not have so many issues. The animation was also a huge turn-off for those expecting some intense action. So, if you find the concept of Battle in Game Five Seconds exciting and want to watch something short, then you can watch this anime series.
