Armed Girl’s Machiavellism

Created by LidenFilms, famous for creating harems like Yamada Kun and the Seven Witches, Armed Girls Machiavellism is somewhat similar in concept. However, there’s a prominent presence of “Feminism” in the anime. Both “Harem” and “Feminism” together don’t really sound like a good idea. Armed Girls Machiavellism tried to merge both to create something new. And today, we’re going to talk about the anime in detail. So, let’s dive deep into our review of Armed Girls Machiavellism.

The story revolves around Fudo Nomura, who got expelled from his high school after causing trouble and fighting violently with his schoolmate. He gets transferred to Private Aichi Symbiosis Academy, which recently converted from an all-girls high school to a co-ed one.

After getting converted to a co-ed school, the girls decided to bring weapons to the school after obtaining permission from the higher-ups. A disciplinary group, “Supreme Five Swords,” was formed. The group always corrected the students that caused unnecessary trouble. Fudo Nomura, who caused severe problems in his previous school, must not create any more trouble here, as the Supreme Five Swords will not let any troublesome student off the hook. He also must fit in an all-girls high school, being the only guy there.

The creators were trying very hard to be cool about the story they were portraying in front of the viewers. Hardcore feminism has been incorporated in a story that might be a little controversial for some people. The way the girls in the anime absolutely dominate the troublemaking Fuso is quite amusing.

The best thing about the story is that it’s not really demonizing men. It is more towards the positive side and teaches us that there are good and bad people worldwide and that not all men are perverts. It clears up some misunderstandings between men and women that are much needed. However, the story overall is not very impressive.

There sure was some effort to make the story cool and amusing, but there was a lack of creative talent and creative thinking. That’s what ruined the whole experience of the viewers.

The series will not take you back with a lot of plot twists. Its narrative is pretty straightforward and might also bore you. Our MC simply wants to collect stamps from the five girls belonging to the Supreme Five Swords to get out of that wretched academy. He ends up fighting all of them every time he interacts with them. That’s it. That’s the whole story.

As we look at the cover of this anime, we think that this must be a super badass and serious series. However, the series tries to be very funny and laughs at its ridiculous setup. There are many instances where the scenes’ supposed to be “funny” are very bizarre and uncomfortable. We won’t spoil them for you and will let you spot them while watching the anime.

Overall, the story is not very impressive as it lacks some creativity and uniqueness. There sure are some good moments, but those are very rare. So, a bit of effort would definitely have produced different results with this anime.

When it comes to the characters, they all seem very cliche. They have copy-pasted personalities that we have already seen in a lot of other anime. However, a few characters offer some depth, and they do make sense as well.

We have our MC, who, I think, is pretty much the only character who is bearable throughout the series. The girl, Rin, seemed great initially, but after her interaction with the MC, she became rather violent and tsundere, developing a crush on him. All the other girls are very generic with unbearable personalities.

There’s also our main antagonist, Amou, who is the most violent delinquent in the school. She has a rather bitchy personality, but it is later revealed that she is in love with Nomura and becomes a yandere for him. Scary stuff, we know.

The characters in this anime are not very unique and impressive. They get very cringey sometimes and are not very pleasant to watch. Therefore, the character department did not do a good job giving interesting and unique personalities to the characters.

The animators did a pretty decent job animating the series and making it a bit different than other anime series. It’s not colorful, but it’s also not plain. The action scenes are animated well, and the choreography seems pretty smooth. There is no CGI involved, so that is a plus point for the series.

We also noticed that the animation quality dropped in some instances. It was not constantly suitable. Some of the characters were creepily designed, and maybe it was deliberate because it didn’t seem average quality because of just laziness.

Overall, the animation quality didn’t disappoint us. The colors and shadows went well with the theme of the anime. So, we have to give it to the animators for putting in some effort.

The action scenes in an anime are not complete without some badass music playing in the background. Luckily, the composers knew what they were doing. The action scenes were more enjoyable because the background music is made well.

We’re also graced with fantastic opening and ending songs that are also quite catchy. We don’t have anything to complain about the music department so we’ll give them high points!

Armed Girl's Machiavellism might seem like an average Harem, but there’s much more going on in the series. Though the story and plot had some serious issues, other elements like animation and music were excellent. Overall, the anime was pretty enjoyable, and we recommend you watch it.
