Neo Angelique Abyss
Angelique is a beautiful young girl who was having a peaceful life at her school. She aspires to be a doctor in the hope of helping everyone, but everything changes with an unexpected turn in her life. Attacks from a monstrous creature called Thanatos kept increasing everywhere until two Purifiers showed up at Angelique's school and asked for her help.
Nyx and the other Purifier, Rayne, fight a losing battle. Angelique hesitates to join them when Thanatos attacks their school. With her classmates falling prey to Thanatos and the Purifiers beaten to submission, Angelique's desire to save everyone awakens, and she agrees to help them. She became the only female Purifier in their land of Arcadia, the one known as the "Queen's Egg."
I like the genre, so I was pretty much excited to see the anime. In the beginning, the series seemed fascinating, however as it proceeded, I couldn’t help but notice a few things that I didn't like. First, I didn’t like the anime’s art.
The way characters were drawn was not very interesting or appealing. I am not a fan of the concept where one random innocent girl studying in a school is told out of nowhere she has some extraordinary mega power in her. I am also numb to the cliche where a very handsome-looking guy comes to the campus for that girl.
Speaking of Nyx, he appeared to be overly creepy at first. Although he seemed to be nice most of the time, it is later revealed that he was not someone he was portrayed to be!. There was something sinister about his smile that I was so sure he would be the real culprit in the end.
I also disliked the female lead character’s personality. She is just too nice and innocent for my liking. As much as her “trying to help everyone’s” enthusiasm is good, it leaves almost nothing interesting or amusing about her. A Lot of the things were cliche in the anime but isn’t it like that for every reverse harem anime? Every guy falls for one girl for no reason. Well, in this anime, they had a reason. The girl had extraordinary power.
In every episode, the lead female character would randomly find a guy that was also not very interesting. She would just find them casually strolling in the market or taking a shower in the middle of the woods. There would be some unexpected events to avoid the anime from getting dull.
Despite not being up to my expectations, I still liked a few characters and events in the story. I loved everything about Rayne. From his weapons to his sense of fashion, everything was great. Even his reaction to falling for the main character was interesting. He was also a genius, and the fact that he was a professor at such a young age was exciting.
A few of the events were funny in the anime, like the episode where Angelique tries to get everyone to cook together, but they end up making a mess, and then they all cook pear pie together. It is amusing that Bernard and Rayne tease Huuga when Angelique orders him to call her just by her name.
The near ending leaves us all with a bit of curiosity as if to why Nyx san was acting a little suspicious, but the anime got interesting in the end when Nyx turned out to be an enemy! The last half of the last episode was also quite enjoyable, where Angelique is brought back to the mention, and everyone eats together.
The last part was probably the best. I liked how the environment was so light and playful, then suddenly they had to leave the mansion burning because one of the primary Purifiers turned out to be the villain! Although the lead female character continues being annoying until the very last, everyone is trying hard to cope with the situation while Angelique is calmly having the time of her life, spacing out and thinking about why it is happening. It just shows that the main female character is too dull.
I was hoping to see who would date or at least be involved with Angelique in the end, but it was useless to hope for the reveal—looking forward to next season now.
“It’s Not a Total Wash!”
Although the scene that I liked was not of much importance, nor was it a very significant one, it was just drawn very beautifully so that it felt nostalgic. I liked the episode where Angelique goes to the market in the evening and finds Rayne standing there at the bookstore. Something about that simple scene was very appealing.
The evening was drawn very well, and they felt like normal teenagers who have a crush on each other when Angelique goes over to talk to Rayne, and the way he reacts to her, blushing and getting nervous, was so cute.
There were many characters to choose my favorite character from, and I liked Rayne at first sight. Ever since I saw him for the first time with guns, I knew he would be my favorite. His sense of fashion is very cool as well. I like his tank top as well as his reactions to certain events.
It was adorable how he told himself that it is none of his business when Angelique runs after her cat but immediately after that, he goes after her because he is worried she will get in trouble. The background story of Rayne was intriguing, where he later revealed that he was not indeed born as a Purifier but was converted into one.
There were so many cute boys to choose from, so it was not a surprise that I had more than one favorite character. And who wouldn't want a handsome elder brother out of nowhere? That's right! I liked the character of Bernard, who was a photographer and turned out to be Angelique's older brother later who looked after her after the death of her parents.
Jet was also a very cool guy and gave out a very interesting look when he was first revealed in the show. The little red spark in his eyes gave away the idea of being inhuman, which was an exciting part.
Roche was one of the guys I was thrilled to watch in the show. He was a sneaky photographer who loved money and women. He wouldn't do anyone any favor without charging them money, so it was very nice to see him doing favors for Angelique for no other reason than cheering her up. It is always interesting to see guys like that falling for someone for real.
Although I won’t say that the anime was one of my favorites, I still liked a few things. First of all, I liked that they introduced new characters in every episode with different personalities. It was pretty enjoyable to see different kinds of people reacting differently to the news of Angelique being the Queen’s Egg.
Also, I enjoyed the background music as well as the ending song! I was completely hooked to the ending song and wouldn’t skip it to the next episode. Some of the scenes and the scenery in the series were outstanding. It gave a charming touch to the story. Most of the buildings and the outfits provide an antique look, and I liked that. The anime story was not a modern one, and it has been a while since I have seen such a story, so it brought back many memories and was refreshing.
The thing that I disliked about this anime is that I found them pretty basic. I could almost predict every next thing. There was hardly anything to spike my interest. As stated earlier, Angelique and her overabundance of niceness was a turnoff; I developed an appreciation for the characters as the anime proceeded. The romance in the series was shallow, and the plot lacked depth; however, the ending was quite shocking.
The only other thing that could be interesting to watch was the enemy Thanatos, but they also turned out to be strange jelly-looking creatures. The fight with them almost looked funny.
As you can tell, I wasn’t an excellent convert though you might be. Hey, it’s just my opinion, but leave a comment below if you come to a different conclusion.
